The whole thing is the lefties causing hatred about the right (aka the nazis). We beat them and the best way to deal with it is to take the piss out of them. See Mel Brooks in several of his films, or Spike Milligan or Croft and Perry.

Russia has the US idea - the best offence is the best defence, which means it will try anything to allay suspicions that they actually did anything when we know they did. However I don't think that oaf Boris Johnson comparing Putin to Hitler is helping things and I also feel that English supporters in Russia for the World Cup in June will not be safe. Only time will tell.
About bloody time too. Porters, paramedics and nurses are finally getting the pay rise they should have had years ago, but interestingly not doctors! |

Boris Johnson talks shit a lot, and right now in the wake of the Salisbury nerve agent poisonings when Britain needs to gain support from as many sympathetic and allied countries as possible and to isolate the Russian government as much as possible, we need our foreign secretary to refrain from talking shit.

I just can't help thinking this case is yet another step too far and verging on sinister. It seems that people are offended by all sorts of nonsense all the time and will over-react at every possible opportunity. Was life really so bad in the days of Dave Allen and Python, when comedians actually made you laugh by being a little outrageous now and then? The media hate Boris and use every opportunity to have a go at him. People read the headlines and believe it.
Read what was actually said....I didn't see any criticism of Labour MP Ian Austin. Johnson was speaking to the all-party foreign affairs select committee and responding to remarks from the Labour MP Ian Austin, who called for England to pull out of the World Cup altogether. “Putin is going to use it in the way Hitler used the 1936 Olympics,” Austin said. Johnson replied: “I think that your characterisation of what is going to happen in Moscow, the World Cup, in all the venues – yes, I think the comparison with 1936 is certainly right. It is an emetic prospect of Putin glorying in this sporting event”. However, he said he did not think it would be fair to ban the England team from competing. https://www.theguardian.com/football...-1936-olympics |

Johnson is the Foreign Secretary in charge of foreign policy whose reckless words and ego could take us into a war. At least Austin is consistent, if Johnson really does believe this why the hell are we going to take part in this 'emetic (vomit inducing)' spectacle as he describes it. |

"reckless words and ego" is meaningless...you could say that about any MP.You see such derogatory remarks fro the likes of Kevin McGuire on Press Preview and the Daily Mail, I would expect more reasoned arguments on a serious forum like this. So you think that by agreeing with what this "nobody" says Johnson is going to start a war? It is not up to Johnson to ban England from the World Cup finals, which they have been fighting for 2 years to get into. Last edited by judy84; March 22nd, 2018 at 09:56 AM.. |

Actually I see another side to Boris, yes the press attack him mercilessly, bur were it matters, he is a serious player and very very business like! It will not be him taking us into a conflict, look at the last few years, when the need is there we do nothing!

I don't see what the point would be of conflict with Russia. As I've said before there is clearly no love lost either way - but by the same token we need nothing from Russia and I don't suppose they need much from us. I think the minister who said "just shut up and go away" was right. Just politely sever all ties and let's go our own ways. We now know what Russia is about and the best policy is to rise above and ignore. These daft utterances from our senior politicians seem ill- judged to me and serve little purpose apart from to buttress Putin at home. Millions of Russians died opposing Hitler so, while you might think that about Putin and the tournament, to say it is undiplomatic, insensitive and really rather stupid. The British way of doing business (with an eyebrow raised in superior disdain) seemed to work much better in the past. |

Select Committee? So what? No one abroad cares or has even heard of the Select Committee. He's not part of the Cabinet or even the governing party. He's irrelevant. Of course the Gov't could stop them going if they wanted but they won't because it will lose them the votes of all those deluded flag waving morons. Any football 'fan' who is stupid enough to go to Russia this summer deserves everything they get, and who is responsible for diplomacy and their safety and security abroad? - call Boris Johnson, good luck guys! |
