This news report is a couple of days old, but I recall the BBC report under investigation was posted previously by myself on other VEF threads...

BBC says article on trans women did not meet accuracy standards
Article claiming some lesbians feel pressured into sex by trans women found to have fallen beneath standards
Jim Waterson Media editor
Wed 1 Jun 2022 15.25 BST
Quote:
A BBC article claiming some lesbians feel pressured into sex by trans women did not meet the broadcaster’s standards on accuracy, the corporation has concluded.

The article – titled “We’re being pressured into sex by some trans women” – was published in October 2021 and became a lightning rod for attitudes towards trans people at the BBC. The broadcaster faced widespread accusations of transphobia and protests outside its offices, while also receiving backing from some gender-critical feminists.

After a large number of complaints, the BBC’s Executive Complaints Unit has ruled that the piece fell beneath the broadcaster’s expected standards in three different ways and has ordered it to be updated. However, they also said it remained a legitimate piece of journalism that explored an important topic.

In particular, the article was criticised for its use of an unscientific survey by the lesbian campaign group Get the L Out, which claimed 56% of respondents had “reported being pressured or coerced to accept a trans woman as a sexual partner”.

The survey, the ruling said, gave the impression that pressure to have sex with trans women “was a widespread, or even a majority, experience among lesbians”. But the complaints unit concluded a self-selecting questionnaire was not a sufficient basis for this claim.

The article was also criticised for failing to make clear that Get the L Out is an activist group that has said “transactivism erases lesbians”.

The article’s headline was also found to be misleading as it implied trans women were actively putting pressure on lesbians to have sex. Instead, the BBC complaints unit said the real focus of the article was the “internalised pressure experienced by some lesbians” to be open to relationships with trans women as a result of a perceived “climate of opinion” within the LGBT community.

A third issue – where an individual quoted in the piece later described trans women as “vile, weak and disgusting” – has already been resolved.

The complaints unit rejected comparisons of transphobia to homophobia and racism – where the BBC does not feel the need to provide a platform to both side of an argument – because there remains “controversy about what constitutes a transphobic view”.

Other complaints from the public – including suggestions that quotes referring to trans women as “biologically male” or having “male” characteristics amounted to misgendering – were rejected by the BBC’s complaints unit.

A spokesperson for the BBC said more internal guidance would be provided to staff on how to cover transgender issues. In an acknowledgment of the deep splits on the topic within its own newsroom, the BBC pledged this would “take into account the breadth of perspectives, internally and externally”.

The thing is you can't trust that movie is what really happened. Some of those involved have said it's been edited to make them look bad, and it wouldn't be the first time that Daily Wire had done that.

There IS an interesting debate to be had, a way we can all figure out how to live together. That is the opposite of what Walsh is doing.

They looked bad legitimately, threatening to walk out of an interview because a serious question they didn't so they didn't look hypocritical or make a colleague look like a hypocrite.

I know what I watched. Editing claims, my ass

Fury as CPS hires transgender activist in new £31,000 working from home diversity job who has backed using the derogatory term 'womxn' instead of 'woman'
  • Sophie Cook appointed 'speak-out champion' at the Crown Prosecution Service
  • Will make around £31,000 a year and it is a mostly working from home position
  • But concerns raised after she used derogatory terms 'womxn' and TERF
Published: 14:52, 2 June 2022
Quote:
Senior prosecutors have been criticised after hiring a transgender activist who made potentially derogatory comments about biological women.

Sophie Cook, 54, has taken up a key diversity and inclusion post at the Crown Prosecution Service, despite previously calling for the word woman to be replaced with 'womxn'.

The activist has also shared several tweets with the acronym TERF — trans-exclusionary radical feminist — a loaded term aimed at women who believe sex is biological and cannot be changed.

In her new £31,000-a-year role as the CPS' 'speak-out champion', Ms Cook will be 'responsible for improving confidence amongst our employees in being able to speak openly about their experiences'.

According to the CPS job advert, Ms Cook will work just four days per week and it will mostly be from home, however she is obliged to attend meetings in person if necessary.

But lawyers and campaign groups have called for reassurances that women employees who express concerns about trans activism won't be silenced or discriminated against.

They have raised concerns that Ms Cook could use the influential role to 'embed' her beliefs at the heart of the agency responsible for prosecuting serious crime in England and Wales.

Ms Cook describes herself as a 'writer, speaker, actor, broadcaster and photographer' and claims to be the '13th most influential figure in Brighton'.

On her website, she says she is also a 'LGBT & mental health campaigner', a Royal Air Force veteran and 'self-harm and suicide survivor'.

After being appointed this week, Ms Cook tweeted: 'This is an amazing role which gives me the opportunity to make a real difference.'

However, concerns were raised over historic tweets in which Ms Cook uses the term TERF, The Times reported.

Last September, she tweeted: 'Apart from menstruate and give birth (just to keep the TERFs happy (are they ever happy?) nothing. I may not be able to do everything well, but I could potentially do anything just as long as there isn't a required grade.'

Ms Cook also appeared on Newsnight in 2018 where she supported replacing the word woman with 'womxn'.

She said at the time: 'I do wonder why people are so offended by it... actually the word was invented by feminists, they were quite happily using these words a few years ago... all of a sudden, they're taking offence.'

We Are Fair Cop, a group of gender-critical lawyers, has demanded 'urgent reassurance' to 'female gender-critical employees' at the CPS that their 'political belief will not leave them vulnerable to unlawful discrimination'.

Sarah Phillimore, a barrister, also tweeted: 'What would happen to a female member of the CPS workforce who objected to [your] new 'Speak Out Champion' referring to her in this derogatory way? Would she be heard? Or sacked?'

A CPS spokesman told The Times the body was 'proud to have a diverse workforce and an inclusive culture. One of our core values is treating everyone with respect and all our staff must adhere to this.'

Ms Cook previously made headlines when MailOnline reported she had become the first trans person to work in the English Premier League.

She served as AFC Bournemouth's team photographer when she made the switch from Steve to Sophie in 2016.

The following year she attempted to become the first transgender person to become an MP, when she stood for Labour in Tory safe seat East Worthing and Shoreham.

Fuck the Daily Mail, trying to whip up hate. Her Wikipedia page is far more interesting, seems she has had a diverse career and plenty of relevant experience. Her military experience in particular seems relevant to the problems that the police are trying to deal with.

The Daily Mail was following The Times, who originally had this story on June 2nd. They even quoted the Times in their news article...

Ohio Republicans weaponize child abuse

A law recently passed by Republicans in Ohio weaponizes child abuse: https://search-prod.lis.state.oh.us/..._PH?format=pdf

The law allows ANYONE to challenge the sex of any female athlete, including those as young as 10 years old.

If challenged, the athlete can either withdraw or submit to a sex confirmation test. The test requires a physician to examine her reproductive organs externally and internally.

Step 1: Spread the labia and examine the size of the clitoris. If it is too large, that's a sign that the girl might be "intersex" and not female enough for sports.

Step 2: A doctor will insert one or two gloved fingers into the girl's vagina, while pressing down on their abdomen to feel their uterus and ovaries.

This kind of exam on a child of 10 is going to be quite painful. If they are a virgin it will be difficult to conduct without breaking the hymen.

Step 3: Blood test to measure testosterone levels and chromosomes.

If the accused declines to be sexual assaulted by a doctor, the accuser can sue the school and get a nice $$$ payout.

Remember that anyone can make the accusation, and there is protection for them to prevent retaliation. Seems like a very effective way to weaponise sexual assault against rival athletes.

This kind of culture war bullshit needs to stop.

I would have thought that because The Times is the newspaper of record, they were correct to report this news.

Does the law allow challenges about the gender of male athletes?

I'm also wondering if carrying out some of these exams doesn't violate a doctor's Hippocratic Oath.
