Plex for Adult Films?

I am rebuilding my home server this week and, while listening to the Rialto Report podcast, was thinking, I have this library of vintage adult films (just bought the distribpix Barbara Broadcast MP4 from Hotmovies) and it would be good to do more with them than just have them in a giant directory named “porn.” Since a lot of the films are in IMDB, it would be easy enough. I have a Plex Server already, although I’d probably put this on a separate NAS (I have two). Others have recommended Emby. Any thoughts?

Did you have any luck with this at all?

I'm thinking of connecting my "Classic" hard drive to my QNAP NAS, via USB and setting up a locked profile for myself in Plex, just for the Classic stuff?

I can then access on my TV and my desktop and laptop and hopefully keep the contents away from prying eyes?

I'm just a bit nervous about dumping 8TB of porn onto my Plex server.... Even with access to my data etc all switched off?

We have a PLEX Server as well, but there is no porn on it, though there well could be. I have a ROKU streaming stick, and the ROKU api for PLEX (app, Icon, whatever, call it the device interface) will accommodate your desires using a couple of different strategies. I don't know how PLEX behaves on an Amazon Fire, an Apple device, or others:

I have a Shield Pro and a 4k Firestick Max or whatever the latest one is called, but my server is on the NAS. Each one has it's own individual set up, so I could easily adjust the one that the "family" don't use (Shield) to be my "Porn" server access? It would make catelogueing a lot easier if Plex did it all for me? I haven't seen IAFD offered as a database selection though???

Yeah, I'm not keen on this one point of access they are now trying to get me to do.. I just want access to "MY" Movies and TV series thanks! If I was subscribed to every channel going, I woulnd't have Plex now, would I....

Here's my NAS specifications:
Platform: Generic Version: TrueNAS-12.0-U6.1
HostName: truenas.local

Combine that info with different streaming devices each with it's each unique API, and it becomes an ever-ending battle with PLEX. I wish I could help you! Reddit has a thread for PLEX discussions but I think that it is a very hard fight indeed! Too many devices, operating systems, and API's. Cheers...

PLEX is great if you have a large media library (video, images, soundfiles/music) however it may take some time (actually a lot of bit of time) to set up correctly. Especially for adult films as this genre is probably by far the most extensive list of films of any class, many of which the details may be obscure to history despite the few archival sources on the internet.

With that said, PLEX works almost flawlessly out of the box for conventional media but for adult films its best to add an additional custom metadata agent(s) after setting up PLEX server. Not going to go into full details as there are plenty of documentation and resources online.

While not perfect these are open source add-on plugins that will scan your library files and scrape from online archival sources such as Adultfilmdatabase, AdultDVDEmpire, Excaliburfilms, etc. to help organize MOST of your existing media files by filling in background information (i.e. Title, Date, Cast/Production information) along with any cover art (if available). It's also customizable and can be edited later for corrections or add custom art, covers, backgrounds if you so choose.

For example, here's a screenshot what you'll see:

Browsing through an extensive media library visually has its advantages rather than going through a big list of text title/descriptions. Kinda like being a kid again I guess and sneaking into the backroom of an old local video rental store and being overwhelmed ~~ "I'm in Heaven". Just scroll through an almost endless sea of eye candy on all those box covers. (Just remember: "not to judge a porn film by its cover!") And you can stream all this delightful content to wherever you have PLEX installed i.e. TV, phone, laptop, tablet, streaming stick/device, etc. locally or remote over the internet.

Anyhow, setting this up, your mileage may vary depending on how your files are organized to begin with. This is where you may spend a lot of time sorting your library out for any errors or corrections. File names including title, date, year I think are the basics but additionally having all your files sorted by year (decades in my case), genre, cast or other sub category can help depending on how you want it set up.

Additionally, you can setup additional media libraries according to performer or whatever category of your choosing. It's all up to you. For all my clips based on performer, I forgo using any metadata scanner and just use the generic screenshot that Plex generates during scanning.

Lastly I may add that getting a premium Plex Pass may be worthwhile for additional benefits and features such as DVR functionality if connected to live TV, ad-free streaming of their free movie/TV services, skip intro, offline downloading of your media to your devices, hardware acceleration to name a few. If privacy is a concern (due to the nature of this content), then the premium Plex Pass offers admin control restricting/allowing access since you can create additional users/guests under your account limiting what's visible in your library. If you go this route, probably best to pick up a lifetime pass (during one of their promotional discounts) rather than pay incrementally through subscription.

Thanks for the detailed info timberjp. I've finally gotten around to starting to categorise my porn

Over 200Gb of duplicate and upgraded movies found so far, that i've been able to delete and free up a little more space for new stuff

I've started with my "Vinegar Syndrome" rips and 50 odd in, things are going ok. I've been using "The Movie Database" scraper with "adult" switched on.

I have however tried a couple of my euro movies and that is where things will start to go wrong. I'd hoped to be able to avoid adding a plug in (especially as they are no longer supported). I've found a couple and struggled with getting them installed, as they aren't being updated due to no longer being supported

EDIT - "Plex Movie" scraper also works for the US ones, so far, and also a couple of EU "Private" movies I just tried...

Coming along nicely with the more mainstream ones

MODs - As this is the help section, are we allowed to post links to places like Github for programs please??

Does anyone know how to submit corrections, if it's possible, for the "Plex Movie" Agent?

I still can't fathom for the life of me how to set up the add-on plugins that timberjp referenced above, so i'm kinda stuck with the "Plex" one for now....

It's found all but a few of my collection so far, though i've noticed the odd discrepancy that i'd like to submit a correction for??

I've also noticed for some actresses there appear to be 2 databases contained within the "Plex Movie" Agent. For example I have 2 Ebony Ayes? I've also split my collection by US and EU, so I have 4 Ebony Ayes sources????

I'm also confused why it wouldn't just list all movies across the 2 libraries, like it does with normal movies? I have my mainstream Movies and TV all separate and if I search for say "John Krasinski", it pulls Movies and TV Shows he's in???

I've had a look around the actual Plex forum, but couldn't see anything "Adult" related on there....

It appears that the Ebony Ayes issue above has now been fixed, I just have one of her now

Thanks to whoever updated the "TMDB" database, if that is where indeed the problem lay?? Whoever/Whatever also fixed a Stacy Lords duplication issue too, so thanks for that as well!

I've now however found another issue, all my Victoria Paris movies are logged under "Sheila Young"? I've checked the TMDB and IMDB databases and can't see it's coming from either of them.

Does anyone have any idea where this issue could be coming from and if it can be rectified by us mere mortals? I've refreshed meta-data but that didn't work
