While I love the effective use of props, garments, and backdrops sometimes minimalism works out great. In the Pedal Pushers photoshoot from 1984, Devin DeVasquesz poses in silver heels and a crochet garment with a silver metal bike against a dark background and a mirrored floor.


Here, Devin is frontally nude looking away. The bike as a prop is done well to give the picture a little extra without distracting from the future Playmate.


Here, Devin looks in the camera while leaning against the bike, holding a bike pump. Her legs are slightly parted and they look great. Devin's expression here is very sexy


As I've gotten older I've definitely developed an appreciation for Playmates who strike very difficult poses. Here Devin lays across the bike, nude in heels with no kick stand. I'm sure there was something holding the bike up but it doesn't take away from a very impressive shot!

Miss September 1985, Venice Kong is one of my very favorite Playmates and her video centerfold is probably my all-time favorite. Everything about her content reminds me of the times when Playboy had bigger budgets, more skilled photographers, and a general feeling of more effort being put in.


Starting with the centerfold, Venice is bottomless, and her blouse and jacket are open. She is also wearing boots and socks. The faded background gives a nice pop of color, indicating the Autumn months. I also think this is another case of pubic hair making a difference with the shot. Modern Playboy models would have taken this pose totally nude with their legs parted to show off their typically shaven vaginas, the pubic hair being present here effectively does that job and it's not necessary for Venice to open her legs and it also allows Venice to strike a better pose to show off her figure.


Here we get a playful, girl next door pic. Venice takes this pose completely nude except for a pair of fishnet bobbysocks and a hair wrap. The prop is an ice cream sundae that is used very well, she's spilled some of it on herself, which is adorable and youthful and it's not overdone to the point that it looks vulgar. Her breasts look huge here and her open legs are done very well, we are given a clear shot but we are still within Playboy's standards.


There is a lot of sensuality in this picture, the open blouse and red high heels may indicate to the viewer that Venice just had a very passionate night but details are left to the reader's imagination


I love the use of props and color here, the yellow really stands out and invokes the era. Venice also gives another very sensual facial expression and the overall pose seems very bold but still remains very tasteful. The tan lines seem to be lost in the airbrushing a bit but still look great and do a good job of drawing your eyes to the area.


Venice gives us full girl-next-door with this pose. Her expressions go from sensual to innocent but curious, and desirous. Her sparkling gown is pulled over her breasts, she's wearing tall heels, and we get a small glimpse of her pubes and a little pop of color with the bow. The backdrop feels tropical but also fantasy and paradise. If Venice is your dream girl, the photographers have perfectly put her in a dream setting and your imagination can run wild.


Venice stays with the girl-next-door styles and goes more playful. Long white dress, no panties, purple wrap in the hair. Venice smiles back at you because she's gotten caught or maybe she wanted to show you something, your imagination will fill in the blanks!


Here Venice is laid across a bench, her panties are halfway down while wearing heels, this pic is very sexual but retains the traditional Playboy tastefulness. Some natural light hits Vence's body and gives the shot an extra touch.


One of my favorite overall pictures of Venice. Here she's a mix of seductive and innocent. She wants something but is not about to blatantly express it. The greenish-blue dress is used properly by having it off the shoulder and contrasts nicely against the white and clear architecture with the green plants in the window. The presence of pubes allows Venice to pose with her legs closer together which I think better showcases the more innocent vibe and leaves more to your imagination. Also, the pose, angle, and use of high heels effectively make the 5-5 Venice look much taller than she actually is, her legs go on for days here!

Venice was blessed with amazing physical stats and beautiful exotic looks and Richard Fegley and Kerry Morris did an amazing job of giving us the best of her! In her photoshoot, we saw the playful, happy, adorable, sensual, curious, and innocent versions of Venice. Her MUAs gave her looks that enhanced her beauty without overdoing it. Her video centerfold takes us back to her native Jamaica and we get a taste of her life, her culture, her friends, and her family before we are given some breathtaking scenes of her swimming nude, walking under a waterfall, or being kissed by the natural light.

From what I've read the late 70s to the mid-80s was a time in which Playboy tried to tinker with their style a bit and make it a touch more explicit, while still nowhere near Penthouse or Hustler, there is a noticeable amount of "spiciness" that is present from this era and it's present in Venice's photoshoot but it's done well and is not distracting and it speaks to the skill of the photographers and models themselves.
