Question the storage site - uptobox.com

the storage site - https://uptobox.com

Only 1 out of many tries does an actual download occur. After the 30 second download timer finishes, various things happen. Usually it spawns another site. Sometimes Norton blocks the link calling it malicious.

It often spawns new pages of OTHER pages I have open.

What's going on here?

It's like other hosts and relies on ads. Use an Adblocker like uBlock Origin and you won't have this problem.

Just close the page that open, Deposit Files does the same and after one or two times your download will start.

As Jenny said those services need money to work and only bottom of the barrel companies advertise on their website. This is why you should get an account when you find a good file hoster, no pub or "weird" stuff sure worth every $ you pay.

TBH 20 euros a year isn't that high...

This is my third response, I have to keep it brief. I want to thank you Jenny48549 and
JSimard or your help.

I have done everything you guys indicated I should do. It is only on a rare occasion that I can download from UpToBox. What usually happens is that once the countdown times ends, the page that is spawned is stopped by Norton - identified as a malware site.

In fact it's so bad that this happens:

If I click on UpToBox's "Support" link THE CONTENT OF OTHER UNRELATED PAGES IN OTHER TABS IS CHANGED!

I have not been able to duplicate the sequence of events (closing spawned pages etc.) that results in a download, usually Norton just stops the page from opening.

I wish there was an internet cop I could file a complaint with. I think it is EGREGIOUS that UpToBox can change the content of other unrelated tabs I have open in Chrome.

I just tried a link as a free user. Chrome with uBlock and Avast AV.

Countdown, download button, download.

No popups, no malware warnings.

Not sure how else to help.

And if you can't figure it out, try a downloader like jdownloader2. Usually, you can bypass the browser problems with a downloader.

uptobox is hit and miss, but I'll trust my Norton Safe Web and avoid this site.

Same goes for Zippyshare. I am rarely able to download form Zippyshare. Here's what Norton has to say:

Quote:
Zippyshare.com will not automatically download malicious software on your computer if you enter it, but it is only a question of time when you will end up with malware if you keep downloading software from this website. As our researchers have observed, this file-sharing website not only contains various advertisements and can cause redirections to untrustworthy websites, but it might also contain fake buttons. If you click on any of them expecting that the download of reliable software will start, you will initiate the malware download. Theoretically, you might download anything from Zippyshare.com. If you click on a wrong button or a malicious advertisement, you might end up with adware, potentially unwanted programs, or even browser hijackers and Trojans. Not all malicious applications are equally bad. For example, a potentially unwanted application is far from a Trojan infection, but it does not mean that you can keep less dangerous application installed.

As mentioned, technically, Zippyshare.com is an ordinary file-sharing website that allows uploading files, but our piece of advice for you would be not to download any uploaded applications from it since it might contain buttons, links, and advertisements leading straight to malware.

This quote from norton applies to all filehosts...

To paraphrase:
"They serve stuff that somebody uploaded! Some evil person may upload evil stuff, so better avoid completely!"

Default The name Norton says it all

Critics

Norton Safe Web is complained about by many users/web administrators as websites will be classified as "unsafe" incorrectly. Even if reevaluation request is submitted, the site will still be listed as "unsafe" and no reevaluation action is taken place indeed.

There have been reported instances of bloggers criticizing the quality of Norton Safe Web who have since been blacklisted by the tool.

Norton Safe Web reviews- 16 all up

I've thought this for a long time

Security suites are businesses not one of your loyal trusted friends
Stop barracking and start using your head

For better experience with filehosts replace norton judging by the following

Uptobox on virustotal 0/71 - nobody agrees with Norton - no surprise there

Zippyshare 0/71 - ditto

I have recently been getting AVG alerts using uptobox.

Should we be concerned?
Is it a "false positive"?
Should it still be on the preferred list?
