It wouldn't surprise me at all. It's not considered unusual in Germany, especially not in DDR. People took their families to the Baltic and North Sea and many went to nude beaches. Nude pics of families with kids were nothing unusual

We know prude Anglos have a problem with this, but seriously, you need to understand the FKK culture. If you don't, you'll have hang-ups about nudity forever

Palo5 already explained it. Those aren't nudes from Mrs. Merkel's private collection or some smut magazine. She is from East Germany, the former GDR (DDR), that had a widespread culture of naturism known as Freikörperkultur (FKK) in German. It was a way to embrace nature and freedom. FKK was not about sex orgies on the beach.

I think these have been debunked as not being Merkel. I think someone identified the car as not being one found in East Germany at the time.

She was born in 1954 so these photos would have to be from 1972 or later to be posted here. They look older than that.

The first VW Beetle was produced in 1945 so its possible for some of them to have made it to the DDR.
