Those early black writers and musicians were nt messing around, they were writing and singing overtly about sex ... putting sex in the lyrics and using rythms and beats that enhanced sex.

I recall attending a Rolling Stones concert where they promoted a forgettable album (IIRC, called Starf*cker). The opening song was probably the album title. In the midst that song performance a giant pink phallus rose from the stage supported by a column of air. I was easily 8 feet or more in height. Mick wrapped his arms around it as much as he could (the diameter was also large) and rode it up and down microphone in hand. I would suggest that the Stones made that appearance erotic (sans a female). At least my companion felt so as I suspect others did.


I think much of rock music has, at the least, sexual connotations. Some are subtle and others outright obvious as stardust posted. I just listened to Abracadabra by the Steve Miller Band. An excerpt follows;
