Ever Wondered where those Funky Background source Music in your fav retro porn movie came from?
well here a little fun thread for porn soundtrack spotting
i love the 70's 80's porn classics, and also have an extensive library of music,
and managed to id alot of the music used, especally the aba releases, with alot of other productions using library music such as kpm, conroy, music dewolfe recordings etc, ,

i will list the film and music used in this thread that i have founr so far., and hopfully others who have spotted a familer tune can add to this porn music library!!!i have the music i have listed if anyone wants an mp3 of any ost music just let me know...

I've always thought they use cheap music, the kind of where you pay the authors once. But Herbie Hancock? Doesn't that cost a fortune to license this for a movie?

Now I'm not 100% sure about the details, but one of Frank Zappa's keyboard players wrote the music for quite a few well known
porn movies of the 70's & early 80's - I think it was Allan Zavod but I can't seem to find any confirmation via google
If I could remember ant of the film titles it might help, but it was a while ago when I found this out & I just can't recall any
specific titles.

And what about Johnny Cash's "Ring of Fire" in "Nightdreams" (1981)? The lesbian cowgirl sequence uses his recording of his own song! I was a little amazed to hear this - somehow I don't think old Johnny gave permission for this. It was probably a case of "maintaining a dignified silence" as the lesser of two evils; if he'd sued, he'd have been giving them a hell of a lot of free publicity, and compounding his own embarrassment as well. If he ever learned of it, that is.
And then there was Tangerine Dream's soundtrack for "Thief" (ca. 1980), a James Caan movie. It ended up in "Beauty", that Loni Sanders movie. And possibly in others as well.

thanks for your replys, yeah its amazing what you spot in these classics, i do know that alot
of the companys used lots of library recorded music, and alot of funk jazz that wasnt licenced which i have tons of on lp
from the 70's as we;ll as an extensive library music collection, i will post an mp3 folder up
of the ones i have listed as they are quite hard to find...i know that a frank zappa keyboard
player called George Duke , some of his tracks have been used,

It was Wall of Voodoo's "Ring of Fire" in Nightdreams, not Cash's. That group had many ties with their music videos and album art to Steve Sayadian (Rinse Dream on Nightdreams), Francis Delia (F.X. Pope). and his brother Joe. Some band members also had fairly extensive gigs in the porn trade you can read about by digging in the wallofvoodoo.com forum archives.

Cash wouldn't have had much legal say-so anyway, because the song was written by June Carter & Merle Kilgore.

For an odd example of porn making for strange musical bedfellows, there was the case of Gene Kauer and partner Doug Lackey, both with soundtrack credits ranging from the G-rated "Adventures of the Wilderness Family" to the XXX "Up 'n' Coming" and many other porn films:
