It's not a good day to be a celebrity. Not when a 'most disliked celebrities of 2024' list drops anyway.

The list goes on and on and on and on and.... on, but we'll just run you through the top 20. Let's just say, James Corden, Meghan Markle, Prince Harry and Amber Heard do not come off well.

At least most of the list is American though right?... right?

The list has been dropped by ' Ranker ', a website that features polls on entertainment, brands, sports, food and culture. It claims to be one of the largest databases of opinions, with more than one billion votes gathered on over millions of subjective voters.

And for this particular poll, it currently has racked up 394.5k votes, with 31.4k voters.

As of writing, the latest additions were Matt Healy, Danny Masterson and Joe Jonas. Weird three celebs to have in one sentence but okay.

Lil Wayne is also being named 'most divisive'. Niche.

Okay, let's get into it. The top 20.

20 - Mark Zuckerberg

Mark Zuckerberg, famously co-founded Facebook and its parent company 'Meta Platforms' (former Facebook Inc.) of which he is chairman, chief executive and controlling shareholder.

As of May 2024, Zuckerberg's net worth was estimated at $166 billion by Forbes, making him the fourth richest person in the world.

19 - Hilaria Thomas

Hilaria Thomas is the wife of actor Alec Baldwin. She is an American yoga instructor, entrepreneur, podcaster and author. She has released an exercise DVD and wellness-focussed book.

After her husband accidentally fatally shot cinematographer Halyna Hutchins with a prop gun in October 2021, Baldwin posted on her Instagram, "My heart is with Halyna. Her husband. Her son. Their family and loved ones. And my Alec."

18 - James Corden

Gavin and Stacey actor and host of 'The Late Late Show' our very own Brit turned American TV host, comedian James Corden comes in at a rather unflattering number 18.

17 - Kylie Jenner

The youngest of the famous Jenner / Kardashian clan, 26-year-old mother of two, Kylie comes in at number 17. She is the founder and owner of cosmetic company Kylie Cosmetics.

16 - Logan Paul

The elder of the Paul brothers and the co-founder of Prime beverages. Elder Paul was ranked on the Forbes list for the highest paid YouTube creators in 2017, 2018 and 2021.

Since their YouTube fame, Logan and his younger brother Jake (who gets a shout out later on) have made moves into the wrestling and boxing world. With their boxing debuts redefining an era of martial arts, dubbed 'YouTube boxing'.

15 - 6ix9ine

Daniel Hernandez (born May 8, 1996), known professionally as 6ix9ine (stylised 6IX9INE and pronounced "six nine") and also as Tekashi69, is an American rapper. One of the first and most well-documented incidents in Hernandez's extensive legal history stems from a child sexual performance charge dating back to 2015. He entered a guilty plea and was sentenced to four years of probation without being required to register as a sex offender.

14 - Kanye West

The ever controversial rapper and father of Kim Kardashian's four children (Kim K also gets a shout out a bit later on). The latest in the Ye saga involves his announcement of 'Yeezy Porn', for which his Yeezy Chief of Staff has just quit over.

13 - Kris Jenner

The matriarch of the Kardashian clan. Kris Jenner is a renowned American TV personality, entertainment manager, producer, businesswoman and author. She rose to fame with Keeping Up with the Kardashians, and she's not gone anywhere since.

12 - Kim Kardashian

Right off the bat from her mum, Kimmy K. One of the original influencers there isn't really anything Kim hasn't done.

Her SKIMS underwear brand was the push that she needed to push her already unimaginable net worth into the billionaire status. Kim can have a habit of being a bit tone deaf, so her appearance on this list doesn't come as a huge surprise.

11 - Jake Paul

Baby Paul. The 27-year-old younger brother of Logan Paul and former Disney star who is the self-proclaimed 'Problem Child'. Another YouTuber, Jake's latest ventures see him enter the ring as a professional boxer.

He famously lost to Molly Mae-Hague's Love Island boyfriend, Tommy Fury in a 2023 face-off. Despite promises of a rematch, it hasn't come to fruition just yet.

10 - Chris Brown

Another rapper, Chris Brown's legacy of domestic violence allegations still hasn't faded from public memory - hence his appearance in the top 10.

9 - James Charles

Born in 1999, 25-year-old James Charles is an American internet personality, make-up artist and model. He is known for being the first male CoverGirl spokesperson.

In 2021, James was accused of "grooming" and having inappropriate conversations with minors. In 2023, the influencer attempted a "comeback" in an interview with Cosmopolitan titled “James Charles Would Like to Be Un-Canceled, Please”.

“I don’t want to sit here and f***ing mope and whine and cry, because nobody wants to hear it,” he began. “I had to do a lot of thinking. Like, ‘Okay, babe, this is your fault. No, you’re not a paedophile. No, you’re not a f***ing groomer. No, you’re not a predator. But you made a big mistake.’”

8 - Sean Combs

Sean Combs - AKA P. Diddy / Puff Daddy, had a string of sexual assault allegations have been made against him, one of the most successful music moguls in the history of rap. Four women, including his long-time partner Casandra "Cassie" Ventura, have filed lawsuits against the musician, accusing him of sexual and physical abuse. He has denied all allegations.

7 - Jada Pinkett Smith

Wife of Will Smith and mum of Jaden and Willow Smith, Jada is an accomplished actress, singer and talk show host. One of the most memorable moments that set the stage for the recent controversies was a 2020 episode of “Red Table Talk” in which the Smiths discussed Jada's romantic “entanglement” with musician August Alsina during a period of separation.

It feels like only yesterday when estranged husband Will slapped comedian Chris Rock on stage at the 2022 Oscars. The controversy arose when Chris Rock made a remark about Jada’s appearance during the Oscar ceremony, seemingly unaware of her alopecia.

6 - Bill Cosby

American former comedian, 86-year-old Bill Cosby has long been plagued with sexual assault allegations. On September 25, 2018, he was sentenced to three to ten years in state prison and a $25,000 fine, together with court costs of both trials.

On June 30, 2021, the Pennsylvania Supreme Court overturned Cosby's conviction, citing violations of his due process rights. Cosby was released from prison on the same day that his conviction was overturned having served nearly three years.

5 - Oprah Winfrey

Oprah Winfrey is a media mogul, talk show host, actress, producer, and philanthropist. She is best known as host of The Oprah Winfrey Show, which aired for 25 seasons, from 1986 to 2011.

In 2023 she faced backlash for using weight-loss medication, despite her long standing role as an ambassador for Weight Watchers. During her impressive career-history she has interviewed The Obamas, President Trump, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle and Sarah Ferguson.

4 - Prince Harry, Duke of Sussex

Prince Harry, the younger son of King Charles and Princess Diana has long come under fire for his supposing 'abandonment' of the Royal Family. Having moved with his wife Meghan Markle (who also gets a mention in a moment) over to the US, Harry was blasted by the UK for leaving his brother and dad in the lurch when it comes to royal commitments.

Harry said that he was determined that his wife wouldn't suffer the same fate as Diana.

3 - Ellen DeGeneres

The 66-year-old star of The Ellen DeGeneres Show, which ran for 19 seasons from 2003 until 2022. Despite its longevity, the show was marred by accusations of toxic behaviour by several executives in 2020, who were subsequently let go.

She hasn't totally disappeared from the public eye however, in February Ellen took to the stage at the Largo in Los Angeles, delivering an unexpected stand-up comedy set. She has taken her comedy show on the road and is now touring across the US.

2 - Amber Heard

Aquaman actress Amber Heard was married to Pirates of the Caribbean actor, Johnny Depp - and the pair became embroiled in a very nasty legal case surrounding domestic abuse and defamation.

Heard alleged that, Depp, drunk and high on mushrooms, flew into a rage, grabbed the woman's wrists and threatened to hurt her. He then allegedly trashed the cabin where he and Heard were staying, hit Heard, and threw glasses at her. Depp has always denied the allegations.

A jury ruled in June 2022 that Heard had defamed Depp.

1 - Meghan Markle, Duchess of Sussex

Born as Rachel Meghan Markle on August 4, 1981, is an American-born member of the British royal family, a philanthropist, and a former actress.

In 2018, Meghan married Prince Harry, becoming the Duchess of Sussex. The couple's wedding was a globally televised event, attended by numerous high-profile guests and watched by millions around the world.

However, Meghan's time as a senior royal was short-lived. In 2020, she and Prince Harry stepped back from their royal duties, seeking to establish financial independence. They relocated to California, USA, where they continue to engage in various charitable endeavours through their non-profit organisation, Archewell Foundation.

Rankers report that "despite the challenges and scrutiny faced, Meghan remains a figure of intrigue and admiration for many, symbolising a modern approach to royalty, philanthropy, and public life."

Prince Harry fails in bid to name Rupert Murdoch in phone-hacking case
Judge rules individual allegations against Murdoch and some other executives should not be examined in trial
Tue 21 May 2024 15.04 BST
Quote:
Prince Harry has failed in his legal bid to name Rupert Murdoch in allegations of extensive cover-up of wrongdoing at Murdoch’s newspapers.

The Duke of Sussex is locked in a legal battle with News Group Newspapers (NGN), the publisher of the Sun, which he has accused of phone hacking, unlawful information gathering, landline tapping and the covering up of widespread wrongdoing.

The case brought by Harry and other high-profile individuals, including the Labour peer Doreen Lawrence, is due to go to trial in January 2025. In March, Harry’s lawyers tried to update parts of their case after the release of more information.

Mr Justice Fancourt ruled that some of the requested amendments could be made, including a number relating to allegations that senior executives at NGN lied to the Leveson inquiry and concealed and destroyed evidence. Harry was allowed to make some changes to his individual case but could not introduce new allegations from 1994, 1995 and 2016 or new allegations of phone hacking.

Fancourt ruled that a number of “big ticket” requests made by the claimants could not be heard at the January trial, and that the individuals should pay a third of NGN’s costs.

In the March hearing, Harry and other claimants sought to point the finger of blame directly at Murdoch, arguing that the 93-year-old billionaire had “turned a blind eye” to an extensive cover-up of wrongdoing at his newspapers and overseen a “culture of impunity” at NGN, which was also the publisher of the now defunct News of the World.

At a hearing at the high court in London on Tuesday, Fancourt ruled that the individual allegations against Murdoch and some other senior executives should not be examined in the trial, as there were “already allegations pleaded against Rebekah Brooks and James Murdoch, who are his trusted lieutenants”.

Fancourt said: “Tempting though it no doubt is for the claimants’ team to attempt to inculpate the man at the very top, doing so will add nothing to a finding that Ms Brooks and Mr James Murdoch or other senior executives knew and were involved, if that is proved to be the case.”

He said lawyers for the claimants wanted to “shoot at ‘trophy’ targets” but that should not “become an end in itself”, adding: “The trial is not an inquiry.”

Making his judgment on the amendments, he said: “The claimants have sought to introduce a vast quantity of new allegations and material, much of which is likely to be highly contentious, and there is no prospect of the time listed for trial accommodating these allegations.”

The wider group of about 40 other claimants were also refused permission to extend the period of alleged wrongdoing from 1994 to 2016; add an annexe of private investigators; include allegations that the Sun’s publisher did not “deal honestly” with the police and CPS when it was under investigation in the wake of the phone-hacking scandal; or include fresh allegations that the publisher targeted politicians for political and commercial gain.

Harry was given permission to make allegations against a number of additional journalists and private investigators and make allegations of tapping of landlines and landline voicemails.

NGN has settled more than 1,300 claims since the Guardian exposed the phone-hacking scandal that led to the closure of the News of the World in 2011, but it has consistently denied that unlawful information gathering took place at the Sun.

A spokesperson for NGN said Wednesday’s judgment had “thoroughly vindicated” its position. Its lawyers have previously accused some of the claimants of using the case as a vehicle to attack the press and said some of the proposed changes to the claim appeared “to be designed to grab headlines, and not to progress the individual claims”.

In a statement, NGN said: “Lawyers for the claimants work with convicted phone hackers and employ anti-press campaigners and activists who seek to use the claims to make allegations within the protection of open justice principles.”

The claimants said they were pleased that the court had “granted them permission to amend their case in relation to a number of significant issues vigorously opposed by NGN”, including “lies told by its senior executives to the Leveson inquiry [and] NGN’s deliberation concealment and destruction of evidence with the knowledge of its most senior executives, including Rupert Murdoch’s own ‘trusted lieutenants’.”

King gives 100th birthday card to D-Day veteran
Quote:
A D-Day veteran has been given a 100th birthday card in person by King Charles.

Jim Miller was invited to Buckingham Palace, where he told the King about his experiences of the Second World War Normandy landings into Nazi-occupied France.

"I am humbled to reach such a great number, especially when I think of those who fell on the Normandy beaches all those years ago," Mr Miller said.

Next week King Charles and other royals will be taking part in commemorations in the UK and France for the 80th anniversary of the June 1944 D-Day landings.

6 June 1944, known as D-Day, marked the beginning of the Allied campaign to liberate France and western Europe from Nazi occupation.

Mr Miller, originally from London and now living in South Wales, was 20 years old when he landed on Juno Beach on 9 June.

"I am proud that I can still share my memories with the generations that come after me," he said.

As he was given his 100th birthday card, he told the King about his personal experience of "such a momentous and harrowing time".

He volunteered for the Army when he was 18, having failed a hearing test for the Royal Air Force.

He served as a driver and wireless operator in armoured cars. During the D-Day landings he crossed the Channel on an American ship.

“I was totally surprised and delighted to be invited to Buckingham Palace. It was a special day and a real honour for me to meet the King and be presented with my 100th birthday card," Mr Miller said.

Next week King Charles, Queen Camilla and Prince William, the Prince of Wales, will take part in a national D-Day commemoration in Portsmouth.

The events for the 80th anniversary of the biggest seaborne invasion in history will also be the first trip overseas for King Charles since his cancer diagnosis.

The King, who is patron of the Royal British Legion, will travel to France for a commemoration at the British Normandy Memorial at Ver-sur-Mer.

An international ceremony with over 25 heads of state will be attended by Prince William.

23 surviving British D-Day veterans will travel to Normandy. A further 21 veterans, including the 100 -year-old Mr Miller, are expected at an event at the National Memorial Arboretum in Staffordshire.

They are part of a dwindling number of veterans of the Normandy landings who remain alive.

Five years ago, 255 D-Day veterans attended Normandy events. Philippa Rawlinson of the Royal British Legion said: "These incredibly moving and poignant commemorations will be our last opportunity to host a significant number of Normandy veterans."

156,000 Allied troops went ashore on the first day of the landings on 6 June 1944, of whom historians estimate around 2,500 were killed. The landings proved to be a key turning point in the military campaign to defeat Nazi Germany.

'Courage, resilience and solidarity': King's tribute at D-Day 80th anniversary
5 June 2024, 12:40 BST
Quote:
King Charles has paid a heartfelt tribute to those who took part in the D-Day landings, praising them for "replacing tyranny with freedom".

"We are eternally in their debt," the King told an 80th anniversary commemoration.

He was speaking in Portsmouth, one of the key departure points for the Normandy landings in June 1944.

The King hailed the "courage, resilience and solidarity" of those who had taken part in D-Day and whose numbers were now "dwindling to so few".

King Charles, with Queen Camilla and his son the Prince of Wales, was addressing a national D-Day commemoration held under blue skies on Southsea Common.

The audience rose to their feet when veterans stood to make speeches and the Queen was brought to tears.

In his biggest public speech since his cancer diagnosis, King Charles hailed the "greatest amphibious operation in history" and the courage of those who "must have questioned if they would survive".

The King said their efforts to end "brutal totalitarianism" must never be forgotten.

And he called on the present generation to honour those who had died, in ways that "live up to the freedom they died for, by balancing rights with civic responsibilities".

Prince William delivered a poignant reading from the diary of Captain Alastair Bannerman, in which the soldier remembered his family as he headed towards the French coast on the morning of D-Day.

Speaking to some of the veterans later, Prince William was asked about his wife Catherine's recovery and said: "She'd love to be here today."

Portsmouth was one of the embarkation points on the south coast eight decades ago, as Allied forces crossed the Channel to liberate France and Western Europe from Nazi occupation.

The commemorative event heard from those who took part in D-Day, including Roy Hayward, who landed in Normandy on 6 June 1944 at the age of 19.

Mr Hayward, now aged 98, said he wanted to remember those who had "fought for democracy" and "to ensure their story is never forgotten".

Last week the King met one of the veterans of the Normandy landings, Jim Miller, who at the age of 20 had gone ashore at Juno Beach.

The King invited Mr Miller to Buckingham Palace to personally hand him his 100th birthday card.

"I am humbled to reach such a great number, especially when I think of those who fell on the Normandy beaches all those years ago," Mr Miller said afterwards.

Earlier on Wednesday, 23 surviving D-Day veterans attended commemorations in Normandy, where they were joined by Princess Anne. A further 21 veterans have been attending a memorial event at the National Memorial Arboretum in Staffordshire.

There were 225 D-Day veterans able to travel to Normandy five years ago, and the Royal British Legion has said these "poignant commemorations will be our last opportunity to host a significant number of Normandy veterans".

The King will travel to France for a commemorative event on Thursday at the British Normandy Memorial at Ver-sur-Mer, which will also be attended by the 23 veterans. The trip to France will be the King's first overseas travel since his cancer diagnosis.

An international ceremony with more than 25 heads of state will be attended by Prince William.

Animal-rights protesters attack portrait of King

Animal-rights protesters have attacked a portrait of King Charles, in a London art gallery.

Two protesters stuck posters on the glass covering the painting.

The painting itself was unharmed, said the Philip Mould Gallery.

The striking art work by Jonathan Yeo, unveiled last month, was the first official painting of the King since his coronation.

The Animal Rising group said its supporters had used water to stick posters to the glass protecting the painting.

They pasted over the royal portrait with a picture of Wallace, a character from the Wallace and Gromit animations.

It was a protest criticising the welfare standards of RSPCA "assured farm" status, with King Charles a patron of the RSPCA.

“With King Charles being such a big fan of Wallace and Gromit, we couldn’t think of a better way to draw his attention," said Daniel Juniper, one of those involved.

A spokesman for the Animal Rising Group said that no police had attended the scene of the protest and its supporters had then left.

The gallery, which has been showing the painting to the public for free, said the incident had been over quickly and no harm had been done to the artwork.

The painting drew much public attention when the King unveiled it in Buckingham Palace last month.

Painter Jonathan Yeo had included an image of a butterfly, to symbolise metamorphosis and rebirth and the King's support for environmental causes.

The RSPCA said it was "shocked by this vandalism", a distraction from its work helping animals.

"We remain confident that our RSPCA Assured scheme is the best way to help farmed animals right now, while campaigning to change their lives in the future," a spokeswoman said.

Kate making good progress and to be at royal event
14 June 2024

The Princess of Wales says she is making “good progress” after her cancer diagnosis and will attend Trooping the Colour on Saturday.

This will be her first public appearance this year following the diagnosis, and her abdominal surgery in January.

But in a personal message, Catherine says her treatment is still ongoing and will continue for another few months.

"I am not out of the woods yet," says the princess.

This is the most significant update on Catherine's health since revealing in March she had cancer, in a statement written in her own words.

It is accompanied by a new photograph of the princess, taken by photographer Matt Porteous, which shows her near her home in Windsor.

But there is caution with the positive message.

“As anyone going through chemotherapy will know, there are good days and bad days,” she says.

"On those bad days you feel weak, tired and you have to give in to your body resting. But on the good days, when you feel stronger, you want to make the most of feeling well," says the princess.

"I am learning how to be patient, especially with uncertainty. Taking each day as it comes, listening to my body, and allowing myself to take this much needed time to heal."

For Trooping the Colour, the princess will be in the carriage parade with her children and will be part of the family group waving from the balcony of Buckingham Palace.

This event is a birthday parade for the monarch and a palace spokesman said King Charles III was “delighted that the princess is able to attend tomorrow’s events”.

The princess has also expressed her thanks for messages of public support during her illness, saying she has been "blown away" by the encouragement.

"It really has made the world of difference to William and me and has helped us both through some of the harder times," says the message from the princess.

The princess has begun to work from home and expects to attend some events over the summer, but Kensington Palace has emphasised that this is not a full return and that plans could be changed at short notice.

Cancer Research UK thanked Catherine for sharing an update on her treatment.

"Her words will mean so much to other cancer patients going through their own experience," the charity's chief executive Michelle Mitchell said.

Prime Minister Rishi Sunak said people living with cancer and their families would draw "hope and inspiration" from Catherine following her statement, while Sir Keir Starmer wished the princess the "very best" as her treatment continues.
