As I understand it, where you are born is a large factor in your future criminal activity. If you are born into a family that sells drugs, pretty much you will be slinging drugs.

In Fresno, I was told - depending on which side of a certain street your family lived, you would belong to the Mexican Mafia or Nuestra Familia gang. This is when the Hispanic gangs were killing each other at a rapid pace some 40 years ago. If your older sibling was in the Crips or the Bloods, you'd probably go that way too.

Life is unfair.

I do believe the influence of Gang lifestyles influences Blacks and Hispanics much more than other races - at least for the moment - in the US.

Good luck changing that.

Cultures are nothing but the sum of choices made by individual humans, and where you are born is only geography. What counts is who you are born and brought up among, and the choices you make about what to accept and learn or to reject.

When people talk about such real, objectively defined differences between groups of people instead of meaningless labels like white, black asian and the like, I'll give them a serious listen.


But when they're whining nonsense about immigrants [undefined and unspecified] being a threat to whites [undefined] and 'their' culture and well-being I take exception.


As just one teensy example of reality: It isn't dark-brown skin that made Usain Bolt fast, and great lots of folks with the same coloration are short, fat and entirely unathletic. Meantime plenty of folks with pale pink skin shhot hoops and run fast.


When you want to talk about some defined race born, bred and acculturated to win races, give it a name that shows you're not a skin-colour obsessed bigot.

Are you saying the Mexican Mafia is a race? And the Nuestra Familia's another one? If that's the neighbourhood business with the openings, it's the one where the kids will go for after-school jobs. And the kids are stuck with living where the folks who run the City set things up to keep them.


I guess you've never heard of a Russian Mafia or the Jewish gans that ran the Manhattan underworld before the Italians arrived en masse.


Race is nothing more than a convenient shorthand for those you fear and want to keep under strict control. Your fear and loathing doesn't make them any less worthy as human beings.

And while it is possible, although difficult to distinguish say French culture from Faroese, I doubt anyone can tell you what your overall white culture might be. Would it include Kumbaya? Stand by me? Amazing Grace? Rap? Jazz? Why don't you tell us?

But on an individual level, you can't choose not to be Black because other people will still treat you as if you are. And why should you have to just to get better treatment? You should expect equality and fairness.

And even beyond how people treat you, you can't choose not to be affected by your ancestry, by the situation you are born into.
