How to edit / cut videos on Mac ?
I'm on an Intel based IMac (Leopard 10.5.5) and really glad of it by the way.
Would someone know how to cut / edit videos without having to purchase Quicktime Pro ? Thanks in advance for your help. |

Edit scenes OS X??
I've got some full length AVI and WMV movies but want to edit out selected scenes and junk the remainder.
I use a Mac/OS X, so can I use iMovie or does it contain some sneaky program that reports edits etc?? Bit naive, I know, but yer never know... Or is there any free edit software for OS X? Thanks. |

I use a great freeware program called MPEG Streamclip. It's so easy to use. It lets you set in and out points and trim to those points, saved edited AVIs and MPEGs without re-encoding, export to any format, and so much more. You can get it at CNET Download, Macupdate or the author's website (squared5.com).

I downloaded a movie. I wanted to edit it to include half the material (i.e. to reduce the duration in time by half) in order to make the material I wanted more easily available and to reduce the amount of storage space used.
I thought that I'd use iMovie. Since the file was in avi format and knowing that iMovie does not import avi I converted the file using Handbrake to mp4. Finding that iMovie does not import mp4 either I simply altered the file extension to mov* and imported the file. I edited and exported the movie in m4v format. The size of the two hour movie before editing was 841 MB, 634 x 480. The size of the one hour movie after editing is 732 MB, 640 x 360. Is there a way of editing simply to trim / cut which is quicker, preserves the screen dimensions (rather than reducing them), and reduces the size by a larger percentage, please? Mac 10.6.8 *altering file extensions is generally not recommended, I know Last edited by the_knicker_inspector; August 3rd, 2015 at 11:47 AM.. |

MPEG Streamclip referred to by Bowelboy works well but I'd encourage anyone else to respond if they have another suggestion.
