Don't know if he's still active - one of the porn film makers some years ago had been an Australian Government film censor!

Australian porn? There really isn't that much to tell. All it is is fabulous potential and lost opportunities.

The first important fact to remember about Australia is that there is no freedom of speech enshrined in our constitution. This simple fact means that the Federal Government has total power to legislate against porn in Australia and they have created a ridiculous situation.

It is only possible to legally purchase X-rated (hardcore) pornography from videoshops in the Australian Capital Territory (funny that, where the politicians work) and the Northern Territory. It is illegal to purchase x-rated pornography everywhere else in Australia (but you can generally get away with possessing it as long as you are not selling it.) Interstate purchases of pornography were only possible through mail order.

What this meant was since it was illegal to sell porn on a widespread basis in Australia, there was never any real growth of locally produced hardcore porn in Australia pre-internet.

There have only been a handful of "professionally" produced porn films made in Australia.

In the 1980's John T. Bone came to Australia with a few American performers (mainly male like Tom Byron) and made a small series of films using some Australian actresses. When he went back to the States, he took several of the actresses with him (girls like Sunny McKay, Kelly Blue, Alice Springs, I think that Deirdre Holland was an Australian discovery even though she was not born here, there may have been other girls too)

The only major porn filmed here since then pre internet were a small series of films by the local magazine Rosie (very amateur, a few good scenes on their tapes but not much) and a notorious incident where a former Chief Censor decided to make some money by financing the production of a porn film featuring an american actress. (Can't remember her name or his name, if anybody could help me out with that one it would be appreciated.)

Only when the internet emerged did things start to change.

As previously noted in this thread, the abbywinters.com website as well as others associated with it (girlsoutwest, ism, etc) demonstrated that good quality porn can be produced in Australia. Emerging early in the new millenium it seemed that these websites pointed a way forwards for porn in Australia, with the possibility that censorship might not be such an issue. Events currently unfolding here, however, suggest otherwise. Late last year that Abbywinters offices were raided by Victorian police and the owner of the abbywinters website, Garion Hall, was charged with earning money though the production of pornography in Victoria. This case is yet to go to trial, but it is possible that abbywinters.com may be forced to relocate to Canberra or possibly overseas. Time will tell.

Another new law (possibly only in NSW, I'm not sure) is seeking to classify all art that contains nudity as pornography meaning that art galleries may have to get works with nudity classified by the censor if it wishes to display them. Any artworks depicting naked children may be classified as child pornography and effectively banned.

Later this year the Federal Government in Australia will be seeking to implement an internet filter for the entire nation. The main purpose of the filter is to block websites with child pornography, but the list of websites being filtered that has been released shows that many other non-cp hardcore websites will be blocked as well. (Including abbywinters and probably these forums as well.)

This is a tragic situation as many of you will know, Australia is full of beautiful women, many of whom would probably share their beauty with us if given the opportunity. It now seems that this will never happen.

There is a good article on censorship in australia from the link below, if you want further reading....

From memory English born Australian actor/media personality Frank Thring directed a number of films.
He seems to get a lot of negative critism, for his direction, but the one or two films I saw weren't that bad,
if you consider that he is depicted generally as a strange kind of deviant.
I really don't know if he used many, if any, Australian actresses? I think not.

The Australian porn film produced by the former Censor was "Buffy Down Under" featuring Kristi Mist.

This court case is going to be of critical importance to the production of internet porn in Australia. If Garion Hall loses, it might be the end of the line for his website as well as other Australian ones. Even if he wins I won't be surprised if the government (state, federal, both, whatever) then leglislates new laws to try to shut websites such as abbywinters.com down. They will cite exploitation of young women and "Won't somebody please think of the children" as their reasons and nobody in this stupid country will complain.

We Australians, generally, are a bunch of sheep and we are nowhere near as laid back and easy going as we like to make out. Deep down, most Australians are very conservative.

I'm not too sure how many I should list, as it may lead to linking to other sites, which as I understand it is a forum no-no?

True, Australian women are very beautiful in my opinion.
That's why I was surprised to read that Abbywinters is Australian. Most of those girls are rather, not beautiful.

In the 90s porn could easily be purchased in NSW and Vic. Has that changed?

Both Melboure and Sydney have a plethora of 'sex shops' where hardcore can be purchased, from memory Adelaide did also, back in the eighties.

All mail order porn used to have to be sent from distributors in Canberra.
As far as I know, this is still the case.
You'd think the 'net makes such ridiculous rules redundant?
