Apparently Doris started off as a dancer and wasn't the goody-two-shoes she's always portrayed. She started singing after an accident ruled out a dancing career. Here are some more pics. She was very attractive when she was younger.

Romance on the High Seas 1948 was her debut movie
and what a performance, what a debut.
She was perfect in that and hard to belive
it was her first attempt.
Warner were trying to get into the Musical movies the MGM dominated at the time.
By the early 60s movies started getting sleazy
with actresses like Marilyn Monroe and Jayne Mansfield coming on the scene and America had an
obsession with the female breast....Sophia Loren cashed in on the same obsession.
Suddenly we were into the swinging sixties and heavy sex scenes in all movies.
Doris Day with her apple pie innocence and wholesome image suddenly seemed a bit out of place.
She eventually gave up the movies and concentratd on light, TV comedy.

It was revealed that Marty Melcher, Doris's husband had embezzled money, not only from Doris, but from her son Terry
as well as zsa zsa Gabor and Kirk Douglas.

The judge estimated that he had embezzled $66 million from Doris alone.

It seems that Marty Melcher had been a bit of a svengali during those 17 years that he was married to Doris... dictating her film career, negotiating her film deals, embezzling millions of dollars along the way !

Marty died in 1968 aged 52

But for good or ill, there is no doubt that Marty was a huge part of Doris's life.

Her film career over, Doris settled down to life on her 11 acre estate in Carmel, keeping herself busy supporting animal charities.

Over the years there have been reports of people seeing a little old lady stealing through the streets of Carmel after midnight rounding up stray dogs and emaciated cats and putting them in her car........could it be Doris ?

What can I say? I knew Doris was a fine figure of a lass, but this vid made from the 1966 film "Glass Bottom Boat" really shows what she`s got. Mond you, with a voice like hers, she needs a decent pair of lungs to hit those notes
