"Thanks" button to activate download links?

Hi,
not sure if this is the right place to ask...
Noticed that some links being downloaded over 100 times and posts getting only like 10 Thanks,which seems to be unfair to the uploaders.
Is it a common problem related to just people's behavior?
Maybe in order to increase interest for more uploading from the community and a proper appreciation would be to add "Thanks" button to activate download links,which would be hidden until "Thanks" pressed.
Just an idea..

That won't work at VEF as I for one see no reason a member should have to thank a post in order to get a link before they can even download the file to see what it actually contains.
Other sites have similar options but I prefer our way.

A member could thank a post get the link then wait hours waiting for it to download.

I just accept that all members are different, some press thanks a lot, others when they see a post of special merit and some just cannot be arsed, they tend to be the ones who join just to post their files then scoot off elsewhere to another forum like a bat out of schnell. Ironically they would probably appreciate your suggestion.

I'm personally quite happy with the current system and see no advantage in changing.

I seem to recall it has been discussed before & the consensus was that it is preferable to have free sharing without any need to 'click to reveal'.

In the far off days of ths forum there was never a thanks button but you could give KUDOS points instead. The idea of linking the thanks button to links isn't feasible.

The person could actually see the content and specs in the preview screens provided(which is a must) before downloading a file.
"A member could thank a post get the link then wait hours waiting for it to download" - in this case they can remove their Thanks,aren't they?
I just thought it would be more fair to the uploaders and create more interest from their part.But it's just my opinion.

There is a hack for VB that allows this, it could be enabled by section if wanted.... however, it will not be installed here as we have too many addons as it stands.

99%+ of all the people on all forums of this nature are "leeches" as they either do not post material or download more than they upload. If this seriously bothers someone then this isn't the hobby for them. No point in doing something for no gain but irritation.

As I write this there are 464,988 registered members of this forum and 2,160,336 posts. There are 375 members with 1,000 or more posts, 2,199 members with 100 or more posts.

2199 / 464988 = 0.004729 or approximately 0.5% of the membership have 100 or more posts.

The ratios are similar on every other forum I've been on in the last 10 years.

This would reduce the Thanks button to a download counter. Unnecessary, since you already have a download counter.

I want members to thank me because they truly appreciate my posts, not because they want to get the download link.
And I think you know well enough that your posts are valuable.
