Areed. It was just some pathetic word play on my part. If one worries much about "thanks" or people leeching it's probably better to find a file sharing network to be on. Plenty of sites out there. I prefer people saying thanks to what they like not what other people think they should like.

That being said I wouldn't be posting if all my posts had "zero thanks" or no comment. One of the reasons I post here has to do to with the community feeling of VEF and the happiness of some members when they finally get long sought after material.

*snerk* Ya, it took me all of about 30 seconds to look up and do that number crunching. Besides, I like number crunching.

I've been making and posting screencaps for about 10 years now and been active on celebrity forums for a few years longer than that. I've known about this ratio for almost that long. If it concerned me I would have stopped years before I came here. Heck, I've been off and on trying to calm down others about it for longer than I can remember.

Would I like to get more thanks and appreciation? Of course, I'm human, I like a good ego stroke as much as the next hairless primate. But I know enough to know that trying to force it doesn't work and almost always backfires. I've seen it happen several times and I'd prefer it didn't happen here so every once in a while I tilt at the windmill of human self-destructiveness. Come Sancho! Time to ride forth again!

Is someone who takes more than they give, but posts thanks, a "leech"? If the idea is give-as-much-as-you-take, maybe so. It would be cool if vef showed # of downloads awa thanks, but probably not feasible.

In all seriousness you fix the thanks issue which really only effects the private areas given those in the public domain are always going to be out of kilter given guests / non-members cant thank but can download.

Then the issue becomes others simply cutting and pasting the links
on other blogs / forums or watered down versions made from your downloads uploaded on streaming video sites etc

Thats a far bigger reason why some no longer share as they once did

During the 2 weeks VEF was down in early 2013 one member reported a file was still being downloaded on 10 other sites....they do it because it earns them advertising revenue

The only deterrent to date that I'm aware of thats partially stopped this is to
place a website logo ie Vintage-erotica-forum on the film so the other sites take it down

The ironic part was this was done by a cash poster
who was having his content borrowed by other cash posters.

Until rewards are dead and gone i dont think hiding links will be a real reason for those who no longer post to start again.

even if the rewards end the advertising revenue will always be around so blogs full of other peoples uploads will continue on and on unfortunately...

Well, I don't like calling anyone a "leech". I think it lowers the entire forum. Not everyone is cut out to create and supply material. Its not always easy even for those who can and want to. Even just finding "new" material on the web that hasn't already been posted isn't always easy. I don't hold that against all the people here who don't or can't post material. Also being unable to currently provide material does not mean that one will never be able to. It took me several years of downloading material and "being a leech" to find my niche and how I could contribute. I don't want to be part of preventing or discouraging others from finding their own ways to contribute.

I'm also crazy enough to occasionally remember that humans are irrational and getting upset over that is itself irrational. So I irrationally decide to rationally do my best to not get irrationally upset.

I think. I may have gotten lost somewhere in that last sentence.

I'm no longer sure what your point or argument is. (Other than maybe just trying to pick a fight. I hope that's not the case.) My position, based on personal philosophy and observation of a number of other forums, is that limiting who is allowed to view or download posted material is a bad idea. Those sites that I have been a part of or observed that do so wither and either go out of business or become insular closed circles of a handful of people stroking each other's egos. It takes some time but it always happens in my experience. All forums/websites lose members over time. Without new people joining they eventually die. Forcing people to jump thru hoops like "you must post material to see other people's posts" or "you must reply/say Thanks/click this button to see other people's posts" just discourages people from participating. If we want people to continue joining VEF, we have to keep it a friendly, welcoming environment. Forcing people to say/post/click Thanks is neither. (It also devalues the Thanks in my opinion.)

You say the forum was created to share with each other. I would say it was created to share. You appear to want to limit who we share with. I don't.

All of these forums such as VEF, PSuzy, etc were created by the original owners for the purpose of giving people a place to share whatever they had with anyone who happened to want it for their collections of material. Back then there was no "thanks" button, people showed appreciation by actually posting comments and saying "thanks". To be honest, I liked that better at the time.... to me someone showing their appreciation by actually making a post was worth 100 thanks clicks. However, once the number of members of the forum increased to larger numbers, the "thanks" button was introduced to try to limit the size of the actual threads.

These forums are still about giving people a place to share with everyone regardless of whether they choose to click a button or participate in any way. If I have anything to say about it, that's how it will stay. Attempting to limit who has access to the content is a good way of frustrating members and losing potential future contributors in the process so this will not happen at this forum. We want to grow our membership, not stagnate and possibly fade away.

As a small time uploader i'd never use the hide link option because

1 - Free host account material needs to be active

Once your past the initial members interest its largely the guests who keep it alive

from my perspective a view or a download is as valuable as a thanks

I'd almost think this applies to some premium file hosts except the hosts use the dmca takedown reason to disguise what their really doing.

2 - Hide it and you just potentially lose a download or worse they join , download and never comeback like the hundreds of thousands that litter every forums membership

Dormant memberships are a great way for bots to get access so i've been told

Forced membership is never wise because there are far too many other forums which dont

The few that i've come across like that I simply bypass...content is now so widely sprayed about no forum really has exclusive material like they once did 7-10 years ago
