Default 00000000 - in Search Boxes ??

I don't know if anyone has experienced this
~ and preferably overcome it.

When I go into a Search Engine ~ Duck or Google etc ~ as soon as the Box is alive, and before I type one letter, it fills up with a string of zeros.
Dozens of them.
Not just in Search Engines either, but on forums like this, even footie or art sites, anything with a searchable "box", as soon as you click on it, the 000000000000000000's fill it up.

It is tedious having to spend 5 minutes trying to delete them and enter your subject.

I run Avast free. Have done scans, "Remove Progs" etc, looking for something unfamiliar.

And I can't do a System Restore.

Anyone any ideas ~~ and I'm still on XP by the way.
Paranoia about Microsoft sabotage is never far away

I haven't experienced that, but I always attempt to disable those kinds of suggestions in the first place by turning off scripting. Do you still get the problem if you do that?

For example, in Firefox (I don't know your setup), install YesScript, and click on the Toolbar button it creates (dragging it to the Toolbar from Customise if necessary) when you're on the search engine's page. Then reload the page.

Try using Ctrl & A (select all) then delete the data string

hope it helps in the mean-time if not a cure

No idea what it is but given its on XP anything is possible
especially if you have jre (java) and adobes shockwave flash still active

You could try these 3
- they remove a host of crap that security suites dont seem to pick up

This one will search and tell you what it finds and leave it up to you whether you remove anything

http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/adwcleaner/

Another just removes everything it finds

http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/down...-removal-tool/

For killing hidden processes and a complete malware scan

A result - fingers crossed.

That "Rogue Killer" that butts suggested is something else - and Free

Well, I did try all of the suggestions. Systematically. {"RK" sorted out issues that I didn't know I had.} Wow !

But the '0000s' still kept coming up whenever I used a search box.
So as I use Firefox 99% of the time I went through all my add-ons.
Scanned the browser with "RK" as well.
I had disabled most of the Real Player add-ons ~ the ones they don't ask about when you install the Real Player plug in.

On about the 4/5 reboot I read on 'Add-In Manager' in Fox, that Real Player wanted me to re-install a "Privacy Browser" that I had never heard of.
So I disabled and removed Real Player totally.

After that reboot I could not type in anything. Even as a Word doc etc.
The batteries in my keyboard had died.

Next day with new batteries I tried again ~ and the "00000s" didn't appear.
I waited a couple of days before I was sure.

So there it is.

Either my weak and dying keyboard was causing the "000s" ~ or it was something Real Player had chosen to install without asking.

This is just to let you know the outcome, and thank you for your ideas.

Could the 000000`s have been the keyboard warning you that the batteries are about spent.

Could be ~ LVG
I did two things at the same time ~ removed Real Player & got new batteries.

I just thought I'd let people know the outcome, even though I'm not sure which worked.

I've worked with a couple of battery keyboards over the years (Logitech's I think) and never had that problem. Just a suggestion. Did you happen to keep those batteries? If you did, put them back in and see what happens. If the 00000's appear again you'll know it was the batteries. If you didn't keep them just wait until the new ones go bad and see what happens.

Good luck. Btw, did you run Malwarebytes?

No ~ 98etc~ I did run that RK though.

My keyboard is Logitech, btw, and the batteries got messed around.

I was swapping mouse batteries and phone batteries around, as it was the middle of the night ~ I've still got them all in a box, awaiting when I go to the Library next to dump them in the Battery Collection bin.

Trouble is, I don't know which battery came from where, because next day I replaced everything with new ones.

I'll do your second suggestion and run these down and see what happens.

About 3 months, and I'll be back. Altzheimers permitting....
