Oh dear. I met Acker when we used to put on {student} gigs ~many years ago.
Not a very pleasant anecdote, so this is not the place for it. RIP Acker. Last edited by Meini Hirion; November 2nd, 2014 at 07:37 PM.. |

Brittney Maynard
While dying of brain cancer she decided to take her own life, and her doctor helped her do it. Physician assisted suicide for terminally ill patients is legal in several states. http://www.cnn.com/2014/11/02/health...ttany-maynard/ The Vatican has already weighed in on the subject; http://www.independent.co.uk/news/pe...n-9840093.html |

It is legal in the Netherlands, Luxembourg and Switzerland. In the United States there are assisted dying laws restricted to terminally ill and mentally competent adults in Oregon where she died, Montana, Washington and Vermont. I am not a religious man but the idea of The Catholic Church spewing their beliefs with respect to her decision (she was not catholic btw) does nothing to make me want to seek out Jesus any more than I do now. Of course, everyone is entitled to their opinion. As a nurse, I've seen a number of people die. One that I can remember very well was a man in his mid forties. Had cancer of the spine and it was an aggressive cancer. One of his greatest fears wasn't the pain he'd be in. We would hopefully be able to ease that. His fear was his being heavily medicated and unaware....his family watching the cancer slowly take his life and the suffering they would go through. He told me he wished he could somehow die when the pain became too much to bear and before his family had to see him like that. A mentally competent man wishing to decide when he dies rather than let the disease make the choice for him. I see no fault in that at all. |

AMEN! To that, Brother Cartmannn. (I'm no religious follower either, for what it's worth)
They don't let animals suffer in pain, but happily allow humans to do so... Not on!!
