Gardening is a doddle, once you have done the hard work setting it up and as long as you pay regular attention to the jobs that need doing it is a pleasurable experience.
Running an allotment is farming in minature and damned hard work. Helping my late father digging and weeding is a reminder of why I would never take one on, not to mention the tea leafs who used to visit during the early hours of the morning steeling, the results of your previous hard work, probably another reason why I moved out of London and my parents followed a couple of years later. |

Never had an allotment, but i'm sure there are bastards who would steal from them. Most of the people at the allotment I've my name down for are old geezers. I just want to spend time with nature and grow something I can eat. I love broad beans. And want to grow my own. I'm sure the people at the allotment will give me some tips and seeds

In the North East allotments are taken very very seriously. Especially by the show leek growers.
Rivalries run very long and deep and can have been passed down through familys for generations. Sabotage is very common and it is not unknown for leek growers to stay up with a baseball bat to protect their crops just before a major show. http://clewsdesk.wordpress.com/2010/...al-leek-shows/ |

Talking about gardening on a porn site. I'm really starting to have concerns about this place.
I like to garden a bit too. The lovely and charming likes to plant a vegetable garden every year and I usually end up primarily being the hole digger, weeder and overall pack mule. I enjoy doing it and there is a special satisfaction of making a salad or something out of items that you have grown. We like to keep it pretty basic and stay with things like cucumbers, tomatos, carrots, beans and pumpkins for Halloween. We also have a very small garden where we plant some annuals each year. I live in the city so nearly any kind of color or beauty is always appreciated. I enjoy it very much and only wish that our growing season was longer.

Hopefully I'll remember to get some sweet pepper seeds and peat pots while I'm out tomorrow and get those started. Other veggie stuff I'll just buy as seedlings or be able to plant the seeds n the ground when it gets wrm enough here in a few months.
My mum takes care of the flower beds which far greater in area and number than the veggetable patch but that's about her main interest in life now. I suspect that's where I'll find her when she leaves this earth, or at leat I hope so as it's her favorite place to be. I might try some of that digital potting soil this year too, the stuff with tiny microprocessors mixed in with the dirt to give the plants increased high tech performance.

This house has a vegetable patch at the back, when I moved in last August there were still leeks, potatoes, beetroot and parsnips growing. Harvested the leeks, potatoes and some of the parsnips before the frost came, the remaining parsnips have now started to shoot forth leaves (!)
Anyway, going to have a go at growing my own pots, leeks and onions this year and will need to learn it all from scratch. |
