I have just decided to replay my whole boxed set collection of Laurel and Hardy (God knows when, I spend all my time on here
)).If there are any fellow fans out there, what are your favourite films or clips or scenes etc? One of my favourites is Towed In A Hole where the boys are fishmongers and decide to cut out the middle man by buying a boat and catching their own fish. Well of course Olly gets them a right dog of a boat that they have to do up and from there the madness starts. The pair of them trying repair the boat by filling it with water then patching up the leaks is brilliant and we all know that whenever those two use a hosepipe it is going to end up down one or both of their trousers ![]() Great Stuff, Tomorrow night I think Them Thar Hills. ![]() Last edited by tabler; 10-12-2009 at 09:56 PM.. |

Excellent taste, I also have the full boxed dvd set and must dig them out for a rerun.
One of the best must be the one based in the sawmill. Busy Bodies I think it was called. the scene where Ollie bends over the bench and Stan rasps the plane across his dungarees leads into five minutes of supreme comedy. Ending with the demise of yet another Model T as it is sliced in two by a massive circular saw. The one where the judge orders the pair out of town and they end up back in his house with his drunk wife is another classic. Yet another classic was the one where Ollie has to clear up after a party before picking the wife up later that day. He asks Stan to come over and give him a hand. Ollie ends up going to the station dressed as an admiral while Stan gets on with burning the house down. Pure genius, timeless comedy that makes me laugh everytime. Yep, Towed in a Hole was superb - I particularly liked the scene where Stan did a chalk drawing of Ollie on a plank of wood and poked it in the eye.
When Oliver Hardy looks into the camera and nods or sighs, you know you're in the company of the greatest comedy duo ever. I've long been trying to track down a CD of their incidental and background music which cheers me up no end. |

Agreed their ensemble playing was great - let's not forget lunkhead Walter Long.
Sons of the Desert is my favourite full-length film - the bit where Ollie has to swallow the horse tablet cracks me up every time. |

Cheers to you guys, keeping classic comedy alive.I'm more an Abbot & Costello guy, but there's not a lot of people around who get it anymore. Now it needs to be about poop, gas, or sex to be funny.

Yeah anky, I liked Abbot & Costello too but I just found the humour of L & H much more subtle. Having said that I loved the A & C meet the 'Monsters' movies.

Marvellous, love their stuff.
Laughing Gravy always a favourite, hiding a dog in a bedroom from a hostile landlord in the depths of winter. Some 'three in a bed' antics that please me in an entirely different way from the material I find here. |

L & H being pursued by a 'plastic' bat; I always laugh when I watch it, and Stan acquiring a Flea circus, while Ollie gets a chimp, which dances( ballerina like) when music is played, all the while being pursued by an escaped Lion; farce at its very best.

My Dad saw L&H live on stage at Portsmouth Guildhall in the early fifties.Of course they were past their best by then and Hardy was already a sick man.
