I can't believe nobody has mentioned Bloodsucking Freaks yet. (When Eli Roth thinks you have too much blood and guts, you know it is a VERY nasty flick.)

"The Messenger - The Story of Joan of Arc", the Luc Besson film.
The battle scenes are downright brutal, I guess kinda like you'd expect the Middle Ages to be.

I felt the same way about kids--a movie I saw several years ago. Chloe Seveniy (sp?) is in it. There wasn't a lot of bloodshed that I remember but there WAS a helluva lot of sexual and drug (including alcohol) abuse. We're talking raw in the extreme...almost no bloodshed (in the slasher sense) that I recall; just intensely violent; a good example of subjectively you might call 'violent'. Needless to say, I never rented it again.

ANY of the Sonny Chiba Street Fighter movies have to be in the conversation. He reinvented ultraviolence in the martial arts/action genre in his time.

Martyrs is a good example for a pretty violent movie.
Another great violent films are Eden Lake, Irreversible and Frontieres Men behind the sun 1 is good, part 2 is more a love story and part 3 is bullshit. Maniac and Mothers Day are classics. But for me, one of the most violent films is Guinea Pig Pt 1 "The devils experiment". No storyline, only the question how much pain and torture a woman can take. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6kylqYqL2LU hf

Truly, I think the most violent, as far as non stop destruction and ear pounding noise, bright flashy explosions, and pure ass kicking...now don't laugh, the original animated Transformers movie.
It was a cartoon, I know, and there was no gore, no human bloodshed but, being a young boy, after viewing it I needed about 45 minutes to decompress. The film caused me to look around very closely at my surroundings and the echos of destruction stayed with me a long time. Perhaps it was my age but I have never had the same sensation (even from Sam Pekinpah (spelling??) and Quentin Tarentino) like I had just been thrown from a motorcycle onto pavement. |

Ibelieve you'd have to go along way to surpass the torture & the burning alive scenes starring Oliver Reed.
The film was baserd on supposedly true account of the goings on at Loudon nunnery in Fance in the middle ages. |

Apparently He was very nearly burned for real(Oliver Reed that is,Urban Grandier was burned). There was a trapdoor beneath him which only worked at the last minute.
