The Saw movies are like Chalk to Rob Zombies Cheese.
The first couple of Saw films, well the first really, weren't that bad (if bad doesn't exclude gore and bloodshed). Mostly they are are a display of cruel devices usually set on a timer that kills the hapless victim as he sets about some hideous task. As the series developed the protagonist becomes some kind of Vigilante hero, as all of his victims usually have some heinous actions in their past. The big difference is that Saw is decidedly "unfunny". Rather more like "Hostel" in some ways Whilst I'm not a fan of Mr. Zombie's I watched both his films "for the warm fuzzy feelings". Not that it really works as a comedy either. Although I wouldn't rush out and buy either, at least it gave us a break from his musical career. |

It s the same thing, like the good ol slashers, Friday the 13 p.e., but back in these days the message was, if you drink, smoke pot, have free sex with anyone you meet, you could die young. Even the old Dracula films worked with the fear of loosing moral standarts. Times have changed since these days, in a negative way, so movies, that reflect the rotten inside of modern civilisation had to come to that, what we talk about. No one would be scared (or shocked) by a horror movie, that doesn t reflect what we all fear. I don t say, that films about demons aso (13 Ghosts, Demons 1&2, Night of the Demons...) won t work today, but the fame of violent movies, that started in the 70s with Zombie, Nightmare in a damaged brain, aso, shows that the fear bout growing violence, dehuminasation, future, isolation, as part of societies evolution is closer to us, than the fear of the unknown, like vampires, demons... When it comes to Rob Zombie, I love the characters in House of 1000 Corpses/Devils Rejects, but Rob always fails in one way, his films start in a good way, but he couldn t hold this level, it s getting confused and boring. The Saw movies are great, but for me they lost their thrill cause they made to many parts of it, another victim of comercial thinking, take a good idea, and kill it with an endless series of non creative sequels (same thing happened to Halloween, Friday the 13.(only part 9, Jason goes to hell, was great again, by bringin the missing background story, part 3, 5, 8 totally failed (no need to talk bout Jason X and Freddy vs Jason, absolute crap)). To add one movie that seems not to be mentioned before (perhabs under another name, cause its a Korean Movie): The Butcher (could be watched in 2 parts on asian-horror-movies*com, its uploaded on z-shared, so its better to push the download button, it s a flv file, that comes very crapy if you watch it online, on vlc player its a real good quality for a flv)

"The FBI believes Spilotro was also involved in the torture murder of loan shark enforcer William "Action" Jackson[citation needed], who worked for DeStefano in the 1950s and 1960s. The Chicago Outfit thought Jackson had become an FBI informant in 1961. Spilotro allegedly took Jackson to a meat packing plant, where he hung him by a meat hook inside the rectum and then crippled Jackson by smashing his knees with a hammer and poking his genitals with an electric cattle prod. Jackson was left near death for three days before finally succumbing to his injuries." Yeah, poor Tony. |

By the by this is the last time i explain a post you`ve misunderstood (For comic effect granted, but then some others won`t get that) , as no offense but i`m completely under the cosh forum wise and barely have time to do some checking and pm answering let alone proper posting ![]() Will probably remain that way for the foreseeable future as real life work keeps coming in and piling up. Still talking of cosh though ![]() Pathology reports on the IDB show the actual Tony and his equally brutal Bro had sand in their lungs , so unless they both went to the beach for a particular clumsy picnic before getting capped i`d say that points to them having been buried while still breathing. ![]() But then what do i know ![]() |

Sorry, GS, but I don't see how I've misunderstood anything. The reference you gave said.." Original reports stated the Spilotros were savagely beaten and buried alive in a cornfield in Enos, Indiana. They were identified by their brother Pasquale, Jr. through dental x-ray records. However, in 2007, mob assassin Nicholas Calabrese testified at the "Operation Family Secrets" trial in Chicago that the brothers were killed in a Bensenville, Illinois, basement where the Spilotros believed that Michael would be inducted into The Outfit. According to court testimony, when Tony entered the basement and realized what was about to occur, he asked if he could "say a prayer".
An autopsy performed on the recovered bodies allegedly found sand in the brothers' lungs, leading FBI examiners to speculate that they had been buried alive. Later testimony proved they were killed in a basement and their bodies later dumped in a grave " Now that's a hell of a day at the beach! Just because they find sand doesn't mean you were buried alive, apparently. And as far as your comment.."Said i felt sorry for the character as portrayed by an actor i like , not that i felt sorry for the real life thug." Well, what you said in your original post was.."Always gets to me more since i like the actor so much ,and know that the events portrayed actually happened to the real life mobster on whom Pesci`s character was based = Tony Spilotro Also always feel sorry for the little child who`ll never get to have breakfast with his pop again , eventhough granted that pop is a murdering thug" I didn't quite take it that you felt sorry for Joe Pesci's son, or that Pesci was a murdering thug. Follow me here? Sorry, GreenSkull, but from what you wrote I naturally assumed you were talking about Spilotro, not Joe Pesci. My mistake, I guess, but you can surely see why. |

So for the sake of anybody else who has misunderstood what i thought was a clear sentence. I felt sorry for the character in the film not the real life character , but only felt sorry for him because the actor playing it is always so likeable. I felt sorry for the son in the film , because the scene in it that shows the son shows him enjoying a quality moment with that actor who is always so likeable. There that`s me done , zippo , for good , nade more , end of line Now please excuse me fellow members i must depart for a prior engagement (And no that doesn`t mean i just said i`m off to get married !) ![]() this, no problem. (Even though I'm not at all aware that Joe Pesci had a son in "Casino", don't recall one, offhand, but you may be right, although I recall him as a bachelor). But yes, we belabor the point. I'm stubborn, I admit, and I apologise for that. Let's move on, brother. (Although we could have some hell of a series of debates).![]() |

A recurring theme in modern mafia films and television series is the bizarre double life of such people: by day, they kill, torture, extort money, sell and smuggle drugs and so forth. Evenings and weekends they are family men whose banal daily lives and petty family problems are eerily similar to those of everyone else. The Godfather and its sequels were groundbreaking in this respect. The point it makes is that this is how such people really live: know your enemy.
In Raymond Chandler's novel Farewell My Lovely Marlowe has a confrontation with local mobster Laird Brunette, who runs gambling ships off the 3 mile limit. Marlowe thinks Brunette is involved in the disappearance he is investigating but it turns out that Brunette is totally innocent in respect of that specific crime and is grimly amused by Marlowe's misguided suspicions. ''People think I'm behind every single thing that goes on in Bay City. No-one ever stops and thinks about how much work that would be...''

Has anyone mentioned the Soviet film "Come and See", about the Nazi massacre of a village and the vengeance of the partisans? The most violent film I can think of.
