The ultimate villain, Jack Palance as Jack Wilson from the classic western, Shane. No one seemed to relish killing more than he did.
The personification of evil. Richard Widmark as Tommy Udo from the movie, Kiss of Death. Here he is, giving Grandma a helping hand down the stairs. Last edited by LeroyLargeCar; 04-23-2010 at 10:34 PM.. |

My vote would go to Dennis Hopper as Frank Booth in Blue Velvet.
But a special mention goes to all the villians in every Blaxploitation movie I've ever seen ![]() |

The one the only Hannibal Lecter.Maybe streching the villain part a bit with this one, more of a hero to some I'm sure.

Andy Robinson as The Scorpio Killer in "Dirty Harry". I also loved Robert Shaw as the villian in both "The Sting" and "The Taking of Pelham 1 2 3". Alan Rickman in "Die Hard" was pretty cool, too. And kudos to some of the aforementioned, especially Richard Widmark, Henry Fonda and James Cagney.

Bruno Ganz as Adolf Hitler
Uhlrich Matthes as Joseph Goebbels Corinna Harfauch as Frau Magda Goebbels Kenneth Brannagh as Reinhard Heydrich Downfall Ganz's is by far the most convincing and fully rounded portrayal of Adolf Hitler that I have seen on film. He dared to present the private persona which the historical record strongly indicates was there: we see a Hitler who loves his dog, is kind and caring towards his private staff, and grateful to Eva Braun for being there for him in his last days. This makes the hysterical rages, the obsessive and all consuming hatred, the positive eagerness to bring the whole of Germany down in ruins with him so much more horribly credible. The tantrum scene, where Ganz as Hitler finally accepts the reality of defeat, but absolutely none of the responsibility and no duty to salvage anything for the sake of Germany, is a bravura display of raw, evil passion, and really blood curdling stuff. Matthes as the implacable believer, Joseph Goebbels is also a creature of rare and exquisite horror, determined like his boss to see the dreadful play acted out to its bitter end, regardless of how many lives are uselessly forfeited. Harfauch as his cold and fanatical wife is also fit to chill the blood of a frozen cod. Her vile murder of her own children to ''save'' them from the Russians plumbed the uttermost depths of criminal insanity: Harfauch performs the crime with a clinical detachment which leaves the viewer wondering whether any human being could be worse than this thing that calls itself a mother. The worst of it is that Matthes and Harfauch are totally convincing all through, great acting from both. According to the post war accounts of the bunker staff who fell into Russian hands, they were personally cross-examined by Stalin, who wanted to be certain that Hitler was really dead. They survived only because they told the truth and all their stories tallied. When he heard about the Goebbels children, even Stalin was shaken, alledgedly commenting that he would never have harmed the children. It didn't stop him harming 20 million other people though. Downfall: best film seen from the German side of the war I know: even better than Cross of Iron. Conspiracy Another compelling and shocking film, depicting the notorious Wannsee conference in January 1942, where Reinhard Heydrich supervised the detailed planning of Hitler's ''final solution''. Heydrich is played by Kenneth Brannagh, who shows him as a classic alpha male, dominating the fractious and bickering Nazi bureaucrats effortlessly by sheer force of personality: charming, suave, persuasive, menacing and radiant with pitiless cruelty. Lets hope there's plenty of room in Hell.
