This lady (August 24nd 1904 - February 19th 1983) began her career as a secretary and lowly script girl, working for Von Sternberg and Chaplin.Sexy and bubbly she pushed her way to notice by ? ,well she was nicely put together and knew it erm let`s leave it at that
  Unfortunately the roles she then received were dire and she was repeatedly miscast in useless bit part singer and dancer roles. She was going nowhere fast ,yet suddenly something happened which killed of most actresses career at the time , sound replaced silence and in an instant personality became a commodity.Now personality is something she had an abundance of , so before you know it she`d moved from bit part to leading     Her first sound films included Show Girl (1928) made in the Vitaphone sound-on-disc system, and Show Girl in Hollywood (1930) . They were hits and she started to gain a following and better roles were offered. But just when things were on the rise Alice went and brought them low , by getting involved with two men at once, literally !     For the time of course this was a total career killer , and the public who i`m sure did exactly the same and worse behind closed curtains turned against her   Now left without a screen chance she was destined to tour the vaudeville circuit and although she ultimately married one of the men involved Sidney Bartlett she never regained the publics affection again. Still she continued working on the stage and in mini ways even the screen for the next two decades, but a series of divorces, even more further sex scandals and a 1957 accident effectively ended her career    Cute / crazy and trouble ? , sounds like my kinda girl   |
