The sender uses a coil which is immersed in the fuel, with a float to which an electrical connection is also made, and the resistance of the coil is what is measured.

Two strange things noticed today
1) Coming down the hill where the supermarket is I noticed on the main step to the flats next to it a line of what I thought looked like polished stones. On further inspection they turned out to be a line of...potatoes!

2) Second strange thing-a thermometer given to us free when sending off for something was showing my attic room to be 100.5F which considering I have a fan on full blast AND a portable air conditioner full on means what I thought all along-the bloody thing is completely useless. If it was 100.5F up here I would NOT be here typing this now!
