Your and our police are confronted more than once with such situations (and learned to deal with it) and I've never heard about final shoots if it wasn't at least necessary (threaten their lives; shooting on them).

Not to compare with the US police, they are shooting traffic offenders several times in the back

I guess in the case of the Palestinians we aren't talking about people appealing to Israel for asylum, really. We're talking about people who routinely suicide-bombed infant school kids on buses etc until the Israelis built a wall and shut them out. Some of the suicide bombers were youths aged 15 and less. Some were little old ladies. If I were in the IDF I would much rather not open fire on unarmed civilians but I certainly wouldn't let any of them enter Israel, knowing their antecedents and their hatred of my niece and nephew on the infant school bus. That might mean killing them; I'd rather not, but I'd do it if I had to, to protect my own. All this we hear about women and babies kind've ignores who the IDF are dealing with and what their track record is. I would never ever evre ever let these people have access to school buses and bus queues inside Israel, not if I were serving as a soldier in the IDF.

Only if they were shooting at me. Some of the defenders of Germany in the last days of WW2 were only 8 years old and I reckon that if you are old enough to kill, then you are old enough to die. But if they aren't shooting at me, then no.

But if someone was cowering valiantly behind children and using them as a shield. the children might get hit when I was trying to shoot the hero directly behind them. I wouldn't want that to happen, but being a human shield carries risks.

Today is the first anniversary of the Manchester bombing.
I guessed I missed May's speech and the BBC's memorial.
