Squiggsy, the Buddhists would argue that point. They believe that all animal based creatures have a soul and therefore are just as viable to suffering of any kind from any sort of mutilation.

And palo, I would recommend that the enforcement of this kind of thing is done by people who must go under it themselves to prove that it's 'perfectly' harmless. They might not walk or talk straight for a few weeks, but I think then they'd understand the ridiculousness of the situation.

You might even want to sell them some of your worst vodka to help numb their pain; you'd be surprised as to the money you'd make for your cause...

I have heard of Indian girls being 'mutilated' in the name of religion which is a barbaric thing to happen.

Just heard the terrible news that one of my childhood heroes, Gerry Anderson(Thunderbirds, Captain Scarlet, Joe 90 etc) has gone public after being diagnosed 18 months ago with Altzheimer's Disease. It is a cruel and bitter blow to an outstanding career providing entertainment for millions of kids and adults here and around the world and it has robbed him of his remaining life" It is most upsetting and I am sure if you grew up watchng on Saturday mornings these amazing shows you will feel the same.

I think they are right. If men/boys think it is necessary, they should decide for themselves. It must not be a decision of parents

Yes Greensy, this is a very sad turn of events. I remember especially watching the Thunderbirds in my childhood tv viewing. Mind You, I had entirely the opposite opinion of that show, with it being so bad it was entertaining, but it still gave me a very good laugh, so I hope that's all that matters.

It's also very sad when a disease like Parkinsons can rob the future of someone like Michael J. Fox getting it at the age of about 30 and then spending the rest of his young life fighting it. I speak from experience in watching my father waste away from this disease, as he spent the last 10 years of his life pathetically battling something he should never have caught. And just because he was 74 when he died is no reason to think that this was more elderly, so therefore less worrying. I assure you it wasn't!

Ah well, in any case, Thunderbirds are go!...

I agree with the ruling. A small child has no say in this. Who's to say the child will grow and follow their parents religion. Like forced marriage such acts should be made illegal.

Isn't male circumcision just as much genital mutilation as that practiced on females in many Moslem countries - my own feeling is that both should be illegal and that parents who take British children abroad to have it carried out should be prosecuted

In the Jewish faith the ceremony is called a BRISS and it is just a matter of cutting a bit of the foreskin back-I don't recall anything else occuring and it usually within a few months of a baby being born, performed by a Rabbi under strict and hygienic conditions. It is a joyous occasion and after which there is a party. Of course I don't remember this, but at no time in my life have I ever heard of any of my Jewish friends being mutilated or hurt. In religion there can be some pretty extreme rites of passage that occur in all faiths. In America I think there are men who pay to have their foreskins replaced if they were cut back as a child.
