By the look of her hairstyle (the "Liz Taylor" look) and other details I'd guess these sets were taken near the end of the 'Classic Era'. Soon the little pocket magazines and black and white images would be swept away by the newer full colour men's magazines, openly on sale in every newsagents in the land, devoted to photo essays on girls living in trendy pen*houses and fast cars.

The pictures bring up something that I have wondered about though. The girl is wearing a different dress in the 2 sets, but the same stockings and the setting is the same.

Was it from 2 different sittings or did the photographer get her to change?

I see the same thing in the photos below. The location is the same but the model is wearing different outer clothes. Maybe the photographer just liked that location and went there 3 different times...............

This link may get 'bumped' by a moderator but I do honestly declare that several of the girls, models, starlets did appear in ToCo publications (Christie, Shrimpton, Twiggy, Bardot, Ann-Margret etc.,) so I am pushing the boundary a little..but in the hope of sparking friendly..and I stress friendly yey or ney debate.

Those who've read some of my previous musings know that I blame Mary Quant and her designer friends for the demise of nylons, suspenders and other under-skirt frillies from the mid-sixties onwards '...to set womanhood free...' as they described it. The images in this link will, I hope, provide ammunition to my case against her and her ilk for crimes 'against good taste, against good fashion' and even 'against humanity!' 8^P

I know I'm being chauvinistic here and I understand many will have fond memories of the mini-era....but as someone who did 'pubescently mature' in the late-sixties and who never had the opportunity to fondle those pre-mini women, I never lost that warm glow that I felt when glimpsing nylon stocking tops, suspenders(garters), frilly underwear and lacy what-nots when worn by women as their daily wear. This is why the vast majority of my image postings are of such women. Very few are nude or wearing tights....but some are.

I completely agree with manowar1952. I was 'just in time' to experience this pre-tights era. It has left me with the feeling of something gone forever for which no amount of leg showing or panty line can compensate; modern fashion suspenders and basques just don't do it for me.



These are just posted for illustration purposes - I realise some if not all have been posted before. I witnessed such sights long, long ago.

This is why I think this thread should remain true to its origin and era. It may have passed it's peak - but recently more material has been forthcoming from a range of newer enthusiasts. I am also restoring images that have been uploaded and will post these (with details of what has been done) in due course.

Yep. Remember Weekend and Tit-Bits too. Always seemed to be on the table in the barber-shop.

I notice in Pat Taylor's post of Jane Mercer photos that in one of them she's wearing a pair of those tightly fitting slacks with underfoot loop which were popular in the late fifties/early sixties. Horrible things but with one saving grace,when worn over suspenders one could see a lot of detail ie buttons and straps. Roll on or belt, black white or fancy colours, suspenders well into tops or on the edge, you could let your imagination run riot! Somewhere in my collection of "The Classic Motorcycle" mags there is a publicity shot for BSA I think with June Palmer astride an extremely lucky 2-wheeler. She's wearing slacks and her suspender buttons are very visible. Happy days indeed! Unfortunately I have over 30 years worth of these mags so finding it would take a lot of time. If I drop across it by accident I'll see if I can post it, after all she did appear in Toco mags occasionally.
