She's called Collette. That's all I know, Medium2. And a sturdy set of drawers can last for years. But Manowar had the evidence of Nicola's (and Marie Graham) early work with Ken - didn't he?!

The decor/hairstyes in the above pic do look later than 1961 to me, Nick. What was the other earlier NT photo?

Hi Medium2, yeah sometime ago, before I gave the site a break, I'm sure Manowar said he held, or had seen pictures of Nicola and Marie in some early 60s publication. Now I'm starting to think I've imagined it all or, worse still, made it all up. I have always held the view that Nicola didn't start working for Ken until about 1968. As you know, I wrote to Ken, but sadly his reply was vague without names, dates or locations. I can't find his letter now, but I did get the feeling that he no longer had anything remaining from his modelling photography days. I suspect, and I know we've discussed this before, that Mrs H was a powerful influence in making a change in Ken. Sad, as I believe he should be proud of what he did for Toco and, all his other glamour work. Women eh? Can't live with them and you can't live with them. Nick

Going off the fireplace, couch and television set I'd say it could be early sixties, but the central heating radiator could indicate a later sixties date.

An interesting observation about the central heating, Don. My parents didn't get theirs installed till the late 60s. So are we now saying that the Nicola/Collette photos were probably late 60s? Making the beatnix even retro for the time of the session. I guess we'll never know. Nick

For what it's worth, my records, which are by no means authenticated or complete, show that NT first appeared in Span in #157 (Vol 13) in Sep '67. In Beautiful Britons she appeared in #143 (Vol 12) in Oct '67.

My records show her to be in Spick #113 (Vol 10) in Apl '63. (which also featured Catherine Bryden)

I suspect this to be an erroneous entry.

There is an entry for #117 (Vol10) in Aug '63 which lists Ann Taylor, with THREE ??? after the name.

The next entry in Spick for NT is #167 (Vol 14) for Oct '67, which would seem to be correct.

Default Beatnix or Playtex?

Quote:

Down on the Lambtex, off with the Playtex...Happy days!

As I mentioned before, worn under a tight-fitting costume suit or dress, Beatnix showed off Wifey's figure to its very best advantage - exactly what Diane Hart claimed in the marketing leaflet. Great for showing off when out with friends etc.

But when it came to manoeuvres on the Lambtex, Playtex was more practicable.

(Thanks to Will for the above pic)

This gets more puzzling all the time.

I'm told that the central heating radiator could be early 1960s.
The curtain pelmet and the coal fire grate also suggest that date. And Nicola's white, 'winkle picker' stiletto-heeled shoes would date the photo as 1960. Winkle pickers were all the rage that year. By 1961, the winkle picker was out.

I was convinced that the display frame on the wall over the birdcage, known as a 'Gaybox', was definitely a mid-sixties thing. We bought one in 1965. But on Googling 'Gaybox' I found someone who had a Gaybox on their wall in the early 60s.

So it looks like these photos could have been taken during 1960

I guess we'll never know the real facts, sadly. I'm sure the photographer used a little deliberate obfuscation to add mystery to his work. Nick
