Default What bothers me; is why not??

I like to thank folks for their efforts and realize it's hard to find these images. I feel everyone should have some form of respect. And the Thank You button is a good start.

Since we do not like thank you posts from members (aka bumps)... the button is one way to say thanks... another way is a PM too. But I use those for special thanks only.

But what I do not like; are members who have been around for years and they are basically zero thanker's. More like Lurkers... they hunt for their images... and nothing else. Do we really need them??

How hard is it to say thanks??

I find that I hit the 'Thanks' button if I'm grateful for what has been posted. If I,m not interested, have seen it before, or disagree I don't.

Or is that being too simplistic?

Revision: Now I tend to follow the the ethos that if I like what I see or read I thank (or if I appreciate the effort), if I don't, I won't, and if the poster has not thanked anyone he won't get one from me regardless of whether I like the post or not.

Last edited by MemoryHunter; 05-08-2012 at 05:37 PM.. Reason: To add revision of my 'Thanks' criteria.

People tend to do what they wanna do, a heckuva lot quicker than if they
have to. The "thanks" button ain't mandatory, although folks are urged to
push it rather than leave a post openly saying so. Some folks will push the
button on every single thing they look at, while others seem to to want to
enjoy what they find without ever coming close to pushing it.......kinda like
pushing it might actually leave evidence that they were ever here at VEF lol.
Some fellas look like they're trying to collect their number of thanks, like pennies
in a bank......urging folks to push their button, but ending up pushing some
of them like Al's wrong buttons! lol That always kinda cracked me up a bit,
but not near as much as someone with as many thanks as the OP's for starting
this thread! lol The way I see it I guess, is kinda like the 'ol saying,
"Smoke em if ya got em", that my late pops told me they'd say before they
headed into battle during WWII. We all gotta go sometime or other, so if
we can't go with a smile on our face, we may as well leave one on someone
elses. lol

Thanks to the 'thankers' of my previous post for making me revisit this thread. I will subscribe to the thread at the end of this rant

Now that I've been here a while longer and better know my way around the forum I have further revised my 'thanks' criteria. I find it hard to believe that every time a member visits to make a post they cannot find a single image or comment that is not worthy of a single mouse click to say 'I like that'. Therefore, from now on any member whose 'thanks' total is less than their post count will automatically be deemed 'ungrateful' and thus receive no thanks from me. If you don't want to thank others I see that as an indication that you don't want to be thanked yourself.

Recently, I took on the task to go through the 'Playbirds' magazine thread to see if I could add new material. As you can imagine it took me a few hours to compare what had been posted with what I had, but in the interests of 'non duping' I did it. Over the next couple of days I scanned some mags, stitched the images where applicable and identified the models I recognised (other than where they were already named).

The first of these 3 posts went up 3 days ago.

So far the 3 posts I have made in that thread have each been viewed a total of 435,921 times, so for the 3 posts that is 1,307,763 views. The total gratitude count for all 3 posts is 100.

I gave up a good 12 hours of my life trying to make this forum a better place and only 0.0000765% of those that viewed could be bothered to make one extra click of the mouse button... It makes me mad

To all you lurkers out there: We, the visible ones, like to be appreciated! Without our posts you'd be looking at an empty page, you ungrateful bastards.

OK, rant over. Time I was somewhere else.

Looking for a favourite, but you don't know her name? There's a thread here, that may help. It's for known models only, don't post requests, or you will be 'Mod-ified.'

Umm, is it the thread has been viewed 435,921 times and not just your posts ? I do hear what you're saying but IMO your assumptions might be a little off.

I found a file online, downloaded it, fixed the audio, split it, uploaded it added captures. 5 thanks for 220 downloads (RS tracks the number of downloads).

I've also had someone take a picture post of mine, split it into 3 posts and post it in the same thread 2 pages later. I've seen them pop up in other places, but that's ok as I don't post there so no harm done.

Erm... Cough... Well, I might be (by that read 'am') mistaken I stand corrected... but... I am not talking about just searching the web, I am talking about getting up there in the loft, going through those old boxes, to find what you're after, and then realising that whilst it may have been easy to shift the whole box ten years ago, now you have to move those mags in much smaller quantities What I have posted in this thread is exclusive to VEF! Unless, of course someone else out there has complete issues of the same mag(s) In which case why didn't you post it to save my aching back.

I have now been through the thread and totaled the 'Thanks' for all of the posts combined in this thread, which is 4437 (correct as of 20:50 09/06/12) and dividing that by the total views: 435,921 (time and date details as previously stated) this gives a 'Thanks to view' ratio of one in a hundred. OK, so it's better than one in ten thousand, but it still makes me mad.

That 'Thanks' total btw includes the multiple thanks of people that have thanked several posts in the thread (myself included) so if you were to ignore multiple thanks from the same member for the sake of stats the number of 'Grateful' members would drop dramatically.

Once again, to you lurkers out there that give no thanks... We will find you

There is even a member on the staff for whom it is his sole purpose

Far too anal, if you want to know how many people viewed your images try imagevenue, it tells you, but it will depress you. I like to think I share with the people I like on here, we thank we interact, the rest are sad voyeurs, what sad lives they must lead
