I'm in my 60's now , but long ago I had a subscription to Playboy magazine. It only lasted a few years. I really loved that magazine. I loved looking at the Playmates, the fantastic pictorials, especially the ones showing Playboy Bunnies from other cities, and I liked the Playboy Advisor and the long interviews, and I really liked those cartoons called the Vargas Girls. There is a thread in this section that shows all the Vargas cartoons that were ever published in Playboy.

I also had subscriptions to two big tit mags: Voluptuous and Gent. I had these subscriptions for about 5 years. This was much later in the 1980's. I used to wank off on many of the pictures.

Chicago where I live used to have many magazine stores that sold back number adult magazines. Now with so much porn readily available on the internet most of these stores have closed. There may only be one left. It was a massive store that had every issue of Playboy and hundreds of all kinds of magazines all in plastic bags and in near perfect condition. The magazine copies, though are very expensive, as much as $150 each depending on how old it was. This store was really only for serious collectors. I did not buy any mags in this store, but I was able to at least look at them.

I recall initially buying the magazines WAS sort of a turn on. Keeping in mind this was around 1989 and 1990, when I first came of age and was old enough to legally go into an adult bookstore. This was right around the time that local convenience stores were taking mags like Playboy, Penthouse, Hustler, Gallery, Club, Chic and the like off their periodical shelves.

And I recall part of the turn on was that back then adult bookstores were looked upon as naughty places that only perverts went to. Like, going into one was definitely a taboo in terms of the mentality back then. Heck, even the act of masturbation was still something one never admitted to back in the 1980s by the general population. And minors accessing hardcore porn back in the 1980s was fairly uncommon, in terms of skin mags that actually showed penetration or cumshots. You'd know of somebody once in a while who stumbled upon such materials via swiping them from their father's secret stash. But it was mostly softcore stuff. Playboy, Penthouse, Hustler, Club, Gallery, Oui. Or late night cable Skinemax.

I remember the first time I went into an adult bookstore I made sure it was located way on the other side of my county. I went at night, parked in the back of the store, quickly walked into the store with my head ducked down so as not to be seen by anybody I potentially knew driving by. The shame factor of possibly being discovered was definitely exciting.

The other part that made it exciting was it was sort of hit or miss buying the magazines as to if the content inside would turn me on or not. Mostly because the magazines were wrapped in clear plastic, so you could see the front and back covers, but you couldn't thumb through the mags before buying them. I used to buy a lot of European porn mags back then, because they had more content/more pages in them, so you got a better bang for your buck.

And that's one thing that is definitely lacking now with the internet, in that there's no mystery anymore...no surprise. You type in whatever you want on a search engine and you can instantly get whatever pics or vids you want. So much of it is free, available 24/7 and you don't even have to leave your house to access it, or find a hiding spot in your house for your stash. And so many people are fairly forthright about admitting they look at porn now that the stigma is largely removed. The ease of access and widespread acceptance of viewing porn has made it less of an exciting thing to engage in as compared to thirty years ago.

I can relate to that. Not knowing what you were going to get inside.

There was a trend in the 90’s in the Paul Raymond titles (Club, Mayfair, Mens World, etc) of putting a girl on the cover but not in the magazine. On the inside back page was an announcement that she’d be in next months issue.

Yes. Especially when I was fifteen and family visited Europe. First I was going crazy because there were tits on covers of magazines in newsstands. Then it occurred to me that there were probably no laws about selling nudie mags to minors. So first chance I got to be away from mom and dad I bucked up my courage (my heart was racing as I stepped up to counter!) and bought a Mayfair. No problem. At the next chance, I bought Club.

My first purchase at 16(I looked older) I had a conflict of butterflies in my stomach and a build up of ready to blast out sperm knocking at the front door of my knob and trying to push my pants and jeans to one side. I must have looked like a sweaty pale skinned zombie as the shopkeeper pushed the mag into a brown paper bag. I think I got as far as the main model before my cock gave way to the impending dambuster. Can't remember which mag but it might have been Whitehouse or similar title.

I got to know where every single sleazy second hand books shop or newsagent where the shelves were stacked with POROGRAPHY
When I was 18 I was in a second hand book shop scanning some mags on a desk, when a couple came in, about the same age. She headed straight to the mags and pointed some out to her boyfriend saying that she had found some he hadn’t got. He looked desperate to get out, and whilst he paid she stared at me for ages as I turned the pages of one of the mags. I made sure she saw my hard on and she smiled at me as they left.
I’ve no idea why I remember this or why it was such a turn on, but back in the day I thought he was a lucky guy

I recall my first purchase very well, Mayfair January 1977, to be exact the one with Brigitte Bardot naked in it - the cover even had a photo of her topless and wearing a pair of denim shorts, but once inside - wowwww….. I guess I was very self conscious and when I plucked up the courage to make the purchase, I picked the copy up and took it to the till, where a quite attractive lady took the magazine and out put it into a brown paper bag, took my £1 and gave me my change and an 'I know what you are going to do with that' smile and I went home and masturbated myself to a standstill looking at it.

She was right!!!

Here is the cover of that issue
