Pool update...

the best part of the game was in the third when Van broke the Bos SO

and the Bruins 5th goal gave cc 2 points

... a ten point lead looks almost insurmountable unless Van suddenly scores a pile of goals... so far 7 goals in 6 games for Van

(18 for Bos)

the closest race in our pool is for 4th... mother cardinal is still hoping to bring down brother ty-khat... she passed the 100-point mark with a 4-point night but was bummed by two garbage time points by D. Sedin

Even though I hate Boston more than Philly, I've got the 3 ice girls avatar up for several reasons. One, I'm a good sport; two, they're three hot babes; and three, you gotta honor the champion. Besides, the f#*@$^k Flyers went out in an earlier round.

With the Cup win, Boston-based franchises have won championships in the four major sports in the past ten years. No other city with teams in the four major sports has done that.

About the riots: bunch of low-life-scum trying to be badder than a lot of low-life-scum 17 years ago. Far too many people standing around, watching and waiting for shit to happen.

I don't understand the whole rioting thing.

It seems you can usually add drunkeness to describe alot of the people's behavior. Young, drunk, pissed off and then add some agitators and you have a real bad mix. It's a shame that people don't give a crap about their city enough to rise above such dumb and destructive antics. I'm not singling out Van as it has happened in so many places you can't possibly name them all. Like you said, dumb people doing dumb stuff.

and great work on the pool and choice on the avatar.

I am no fan of the Bruins, going back to the North Stars days, but I do like that avatar!

I would definetly be down for a league next year so count me in there. Again thanks for all of your diligence and hard work.

4legs made it at the end a close race, just missed by one shutout. Bruins earned the trophy the hard way, winning 3 game sevens in the playoffs, thats pretty damn good.

Pretty damn heart breaking for the Canucks, one game away from winning thier first Stanley Cup, ouch!

From what I've heard Vancouver is a great city with some really nice folks. Its just a few young knuckelheads and drunks with missed placed anger acting like fools, which can and does happen in any city. I hope noone was seriously hurt.

TitansFan, NFL isn't my game. When there's no hockey, I follow the CFL. Big BC Lions fan. When I was a kid, Dad got me an autographed Joe Kapp ball. Them were the days.

The new NHL hockey season starts on Oct. 6, 2011. I thought I'd start a regular season pool where we create our own individual teams by drafting players. Anyone and everyone is welcome to join the VEF players pool draft.

Rules

Here's how it works: meet on this thread at 1pm North American Eastern Time (which is either GMT -4 (if still summer time) or GMT -5 (if clocks changed to winter time by then)) on Sat Oct. 1st.

The draft: there will be 30 rounds. Draft order will be determined at random. The draft will proceed in that random order for odd-numbered rounds and in the reverse order for even-numbered rounds.

Each participant will select thirty players. You may not select a player that has been previously selected. The scoring is simple: one point for every goal and one point for every assist that your players earn over the course of the season.

Re-drafts: over the course of the season there will be 5 re-drafts. These are opportunities to upgrade your team, drop injured players etc. The draft order will be the reverse order of the current standings of the pool on that day (i.e. last place goes first, first place goes last).

One by one, participants may drop a player and add a new one. It seems unlikely that you'd want to, but you may choose a player that someone else has dropped. Of course, you may pass at any time. You may re-enter the re-draft at any time even if you passed in a previous round (someone may get dropped later that you decide you want). The re-draft ends when all participants have passed on the same round. You only receive points for goals and assists that players earn in games played while they are on your team (not before or after).

Dates for the re-drafts: The 5 re-drafts will be held on Sat Nov. 12th, Sat Dec. 10th, Sat Jan. 14th, Sat Feb. 11th and Sat Mar. 10th. All re-drafts will again be held in this thread at 1pm North American Eastern Time.

The winner: At the end of the regular season, the person with the most total goals and assists will be the pool winner. The winner chooses an image that all other participants must display as their avatar for the week following the end of the season. (If there's interest, we'll do a new pool for the playoffs).
