For all that consider upgrading to 10.7 (Lion): my Advice for minimizing you surprize after upgrading is to look at the compatibility-Tables at http://roaringapps.com/ There are several Programs listed which i needed, so i didn't upgrade. Considering the complaints of people who did upgrade blindly, i feel lucky.

Any idea how to open files with following extensions?:
.z01 .z02 .z03 .z04 etc..... I have tried UnRarX, StuffitExpander, Rar expander, Zipeg, Unarchiver, A-joiner.....can`t open them, and files are NOT corrupted. Any ideas? To make this challenge a bit tougher I also remember to mention that my Mac is G5 PPC with 10.4.11 so Intel-based apps are big no-no! ![]()

Stupid question
![]() I've been using a Mac now for 3 months, the OS X lion version. It's been more than fantastic, the only small problem, more an inconvenience than a problem though is this, In finder, up on the edit tab, is there any reason the cut feature is greyed out For the time being I just, select all, copy and then paste. Just wondering why it cannot be done with cut and paste ![]()

afaik that's normal When you're like in (a) Texteditor, the cut feature should be active. I guess activating the cut feature in the Finder could cause desktop items to 'dissapear' if the user cuts by mistake.. ![]()

Advise needed
![]() My missus bought a 3 TB Time Machine thinking the wrong thing. I needed a back up external drive. She thought she'd be nice and buy one, so she went and bought that ![]() Only she ain't exactly computer savvy. Didn't realize it was a wi-fi router also, so she wasted a lot of cash ![]() I was wondering if any of ya have a Time Machine and use it ? I use mobile broadband and don't need wi-fi. Is it worth keeping it and using it as just as hard drive or take it back for a refund and get a cheaper smaller drive ?

Also, you should be aware that the former TimeCapsule-Versions had a Problem with the build-in AC-Adapter - appr. after 19 Months the Power-Adapter stopped working because of faulty Capacitors, caused by overheating. I don't know if the problem still exists with the newer Gernerations, but i got a lot of complaints from people using the TC as a WiFI-Router/Broadband-Modem/TM-Backup only to be left dissappointed by the low quality of the components. I tried to get a replacement part for this crap, but had no luck. In one instance, i had to disassemble the whole TC and removed the Harddrive which went not that well because some parts were *glued* together. Seriously!! There is even a 'Apple Time Capsule Memorial Register' (http://timecapsuledead.org/) which has over 2.500 Entries resulting in an average Lifespan of 19 Months, 20 Days ![]() My conclusion: It looks nice, it's easy to setup and has a lot of functions, but the 'all-in-one' philosophy (and resulting heating problem with the miniature design) make it not as reliable as i would like. If you have troubles, you have to disassamble the TC and can forget your warranty.

Btw that Apple Time Capsule Memorial Register = scaryNote: the best permanent backup solution for data are archival grade (stable for ± 100 years guaranteed) DVD-R disks and a fireproof vault..

A couple of days ago I installed Apple's latest upgrade Mountain Lion.
I use Safari to surf and to my surprise I couldn't access VEF @ midnight. At first, I thought it was a web maintenance issue but it turns out that it's Safari's new curfew protection So if you encounter this difficulty with Safari and can't access VEF at midnight, you need to log into your Google account and reset your preferences, choose Filter Off, and click Save Preferences, then log out (or stay logged in if you wish) |

You probably just typed the begining of the Adress for VEF and the Safari Omibox completed your input with a Search result, which redirected to Google Search with 'Safe Search' turned on and therefore blocked VEF. ![]()
