Few of us wound up working on Wall Street, which prefers Ivy League grads. Many of us severely reduced our pot smoking, gave up psychedelics, cut our hair, and got jobs. Poverty and filth lose their appeal rather quickly. Admittedly, after selling out to the Man for 40 years, one does feel like a used up whore. But I did manage to get my sister and a niece through college. Thus, I provided my neck of the woods with the nurse-manager of an emergency room and a dedicated high school teacher in addition to my own work and donations to charity.

Default Television question

American television is pretty rife with paranormal shows. I've become a fan of a couple (SciFy's Paranormal Witness and TLC's A Haunting).

Browsing through Amazon instant video, I've discovered something from Britain called Most Haunted. It features a chick (with varying hair colors) named Yvette Fielding.

For some reason, she looks familiar. I get the feeling I've seen her before, but can't figure out where. Is she well (or widely) known, even before this? What's your take on her & the show? I've watched a few of these, and they're not bad.

Appreciate any insight.

Yvette Fielding used to be a Blue Peter presenter (popular kids TV show) many years ago if that helps

I used to like Most Haunted,You're probably getting the cleaned up version, I always enjoyed the way She went from calm professional to profane terror in a matter of minutes"What the fuck was that ?!"

Course I did, but Boris was better than Ken. Only thing Ken did right was sack John McDonnel before he bankrupted London.

I wasn't there under Boris but I was under Red Ken. I don't know what permanent residents felt, but as an interloper for a few years I thought that the transport system improved immensely during Ken's time.

It was modernised and became much more efficient and affordable. I don't know what effect that had on rates but before those changes I was being priced out of working in London.

We'll have to disagree on that one. Nobody could possibly be worse than the ignorant racist shit Johnson.

I was still a Londoner in the early 1980s and remember how inexpensive the tube became under Ken's "Fares Fair" scheme in 1981 - I think it was 20p to cross London, from Liverpool Street to Notting Hill Gate, say. That policy was ruled illegal by the UK government a year or so later, but tube fares stayed affordable. IIRC the improvements were not due to Ken but to maintenance and new lines coming into service (e.g. the Jubilee line). Some of the carriages were ancient. Does anyone else remember the Drain (Waterloo and City line) back then? Smoking carriages existed until 1987 (the King's Cross fire), so these were brown and disgusting!
