Only temporarily. To paraphrase the Jefferson Airplane hit White Rabbit, "One pill makes you thirsty, one pill makes you pee."

At least some of the prescribed pills are meant to counteract side effects of others. Ain't getting old fun?

My oldest sister's late husband was also tall like I am. She is bringing me his cane and walker to save me buying new ones. (Fuck, fuck, fuck, fuck, fuck.)

My poor parents were each on a regime of pills.

The first pill helps one thing but screws up something else. Then its another pill to counteract it but that one screws up something else. Then another counteracting pill, and on and on ... until they were both up to 6-7 pills a day! Fucking doctors suck!

Its like those drug commercials on TV with the crazy names. They are meant to help one thing but have a dozen side effects and things that they harm!

I have a friend who is on 60 different medication each month.

I don't wish it on him but I don't think he has much long left to live.

He has heart problems (3 strokes already and 1 surgery), Parkinson's, breathing issues which causes sleep issues where he has to wear a mask attached to an oxygen tank just to get a few hours of sleep and even with that there are days where he barely gets a couple of hours of sleep and he is like a zombie all day, bad back and bad knees, blood pressure issues, and other things.

He probably sees 4 different doctors each months and all 4 prescribe him medication and each one of them knows exactly what the other 3 are prescribing him.

I took him to Walgreens and CVS many times to go get his medication because he was feeling too bad to be able to drive.

On one of those trips, he picked up 4 medications and it costed him over $1,400.

One of those were $700+, his co-pay after insurance, and it was only for 2 weeks supply.

That's another thing, my parents each had 3-4 doctors ... they all had my parent's medical charts/records, what other doctor's were involved, and their medication info, so then an idiot doctor goes and prescribes some medication that conflicts with another doctor's prescription, then its another counteracting pill!

I don't think these doctors share information on patients unless the patients allows it to be share.

Same for pharmacies.

There is not a national database that doctors and pharmacist can access to see what everyone who is a patient with a doctor or hospital somewhere is prescribed what treatment and medication.

Both my parents did give their consent and sign forms allowing their medical info to be shared with each doctor. The thought process being that they would all be on the same page -- wrong!

Then you have more than one doctor in the same office now.

When I was a kid, you go to the doctor, you went to see the same doctor to the point when you are an adult, they still remember you from when you were a kid.

The family physician we take our children to has 4 different doctors. So we may not get the same doctor on the next visit as on the current visit even if they all have access to the same in house files on every one of our children.

I'll have you know we've been having really good weather here for some time.

Yes, yes! I know it rained at the cricket but that was in Wales - a whole different country.

There was a screw up with my doctor's medical practice. The renewals on meds expired, he was going on vacation, and rather than have me see someone else or authorize a one time refill, they let things run out and go unfilled. One of the meds threw me into full bore withdrawals. I recognized the symptoms due to my dissolute youth.

Long story short, I saw the doc today and it was agreed that two of the meds didn't seem to be working very well, so why start them again? A referral to a specialist is being made to look for a better med for the one issue (the other may be treating a side effect of the other medication), but for the time being, I am minus 2 pills per day.

Now, if they will just let me skin Jess Sessions' pee-pee and hang him up like a pinata...

Our local surgery lists many doctors but much of time there are no actual doctors on the premises. There are however around six "Care Navigators"
