Raine Spencer, the stepmother of Princess Diana, has died after a short illness, aged 87, her family have said.

Countess Spencer, who was married to Diana's father Earl Spencer from 1976 until his death in 1992, died at her London home on Friday.

The death was confirmed by her son William Legge, the Earl of Dartmouth and a Ukip MEP.

The family said in a statement: "Raine, Countess Spencer, died peacefully at her home in London on 21st October, 2016, after a short illness."

Richard Nicoll, a fashion designer who worked with brands including Jack Wills and Topshop, has died suddenly.
The 39-year-old, who was born in London and grew up in Australia, was due to start designing for Adidas next year.
It's reported he had a heart attack in the early hours of this morning and was taken to hospital by paramedics from his home in Sydney.
Tributes are being paid by big names in the fashion industry and those who loved his clothes.

Re Dave Cash. Back in the mists of time when I used to listen to Capital Radio(mostly when I was ill, at lunchtimes) I remember his quiz show Cash On Delivery, which asked a series of topical quiz questions and you won money. I don't remember anything about he and Kenny Everett but I saw a documentary about Kenny Everett some years ago and they had a real blast together on the radio. Sad news indeed, two legends of the radio gone now.

I read about this too. I didn't even knew she had a stepmother!

Big name comic book artist Steve Dillon has died.

Dillon worked on titles such as Punisher, Preacher, Judge Dredd and Wolverine: Origin.

The first woman to ascend Everest, Japanese climber Junko Tabei, has died aged 77, her family say. Tabei conquered Everest in May 1975, aged 35, before climbing all of the world's seven highest peaks by 1992. She was diagnosed with cancer of the abdomen four years ago, and died in hospital in the city of Saitama. Her last ascent was of Mount Fuji in July, alongside high school students affected by the 2011 Japanese earthquake and tsunami. Tabei was originally from Fukushima prefecture, that was badly affected by the disaster. "Back in 1970s Japan, it was still widely considered that men were the ones to work outside and women would stay at home. "Even women who had jobs - they were asked just to serve tea. So it was unthinkable for them to be promoted in their workplaces." Her ascent of Everest came 12 days after she was swept away in an avalanche on the mountain. She was dug out by a guide and continued the expedition.
