I'd have thought you Aussies would have preferred the larger measure of distance - i.e. the mile over the kilometre.

Considering the vast distances between anything of any real interest whatsoever, wouldn't it be quicker to express in smaller numbers?

Besides, if all their traffic signs are in km and that's what they learn in school, why would they want an antiquated measurement system that means nothing to them and almost no one else in the world uses?

The numbers argument doesn't wash. Aussies have a whole continent that hardly anyone uses.

I also understand that Russia has quite a large economy - but only about five oligarchs have any money.

Not a bad idea if you want to survive in the Australian desert. I think every Australian citizen should be entitled to a device like this one, provided by the government of course.
