Then refers to time:
"We ate herring then we drank our melted butter."
"Maria's breasts popped out, then everyone looked."

Than refers to a choice or a difference:
"I would rather have the bowl of peas than the bowl of broken glass"
"The coo-coo clock is a much better gift than the bag of scorpions."
"Other than the man who died we all had a great time"

Desiccated. Gets me every time - just looks wrong!!! Fortunately not a word I use very often.

The pope decides that the ancient holy texts should be reviewed in attempt to modernise the Catholic church.
He was concerned that there might have been mistakes made as the ancient monks would make hand written copies from copies etc.
Next day he was approached by an ashen faced cardinal.
"I have found a terrible mistake in the the holy texts" he says " in the original it says CELIBRATE !"

My favourite word is phlegm pronounced "flem".

An unpleasant subject matter but an astonishingly large number of superfluous letters in a single syllable more than makes up for this.

Oh yes - it's Chimney not Chimley - that one annoys me.
