Pub Strippers

During the 70's and 80's many cities with the UK had the odd pub in which strippers used to perform at lunchtimes and evenings.

The entrance fee on the door was next to nothing and the cost of a pint the same as any other pub in the vicinity.

Guys would pop in for a pie and a pint at lunchtime where the atmosphere was always jovial and tinged with an air of excitement as everybody waited for some scantily dressed girl to appear on stage from behind some glitzy curtain before stripping to a couple of records.

Whatever happened to such pubs and have any survived?

Do you know of any pubs in the UK where strippers still perform and have you any tales to tell from the 'good old days'.

Did you often visit such places and what was your experience?

local pub tried topless barmaids a few yrs ago but asked the regulars ..... sounds a plan and who doesnt want a quick looksee .... sad to say they managed to get just 2 ladys one being a good friend who to be frank is a complete turn off and the other being a lady of large proportions whos a friends mom ,,,,,, lets say gravity pulls extra strong around her . I turned up for the laugh but lasted minutes as it was super uncomfortable

Speaking of things I missed out on...

I had a Japanese boss who told me about 'No Pan Kissas' (No Panty Cafes). The barmaids would walk on top of the bar counter with skirts and no panties. At strategic locations, little air jets set into the counter top would shoot air up the barmaid's skirt to offer a better view.

Apparently, I started working for a Japanese company about 10 years too late to experience this novelty.

For various reasons, social, economic, licencing, the heyday of the pub stripper has sadly passed and is greatly missed by me at least. I knew of at least a dozen London pubs with walk-around-with-a-glass-collection strippers on, 10 years ago. Nearly all including 3 quite near to me in West London have stopped or closed down. I've never really liked the modern manifestation, the Lap-Dancing venues. Nothing could beat a hit and miss afternoon in a not crowded, friendly pub, chatting to the girls between dances, the odd 'private', oroccasionally driving one or two of the girls around from one venue to another. Happy days. It was good to catch the rather lovely East London Strippers Collective putting on a show at the UKAP Awards in London the other week.

E London still has some strip pubs, as some years ago I got talking to a rare site, an English stripper. She was there with her "boss", as she quietly admitted that she and all the strippers second job was in pubs like this. First job was working in "massage parlours".

Just found this thread. Probably about the very early 90s a moderately seedy pub in my hometown started doing it on (as I remember) Friday lunchtimes. I went in once with a mate, and we were both surprised (and probably aroused) by the fact that one of the girls was someone we'd been at school with when we were kids!

The Calfornia in North Woolwich had strippers most days until it closed down about 8 years ago. A working mans pub, so not so smart, but great fun.

When I started work in the late seventies it was at Elephant and Castle in South East London.

Each Friday lunchtime we’d trot across the road to the “Charlie Chaplin” for a pint and to watch the strippers.

Like most places, there was no actual admission fee. The girls having completed their strip would walk around the pub with a collection bucket before getting dressed.

Strangely enough, despite them walking around naked no one ever touched them. Different times!
