I had never heard of her until today when I watched the Randolph Scott western Ride Lonesome. I first thought the statuesque blonde might be Irish McCalla. Karen's figure is almost too good to be true, as well as her facial structure--like a classic pin up model come to life. Maybe she posed for some cheese cake before making it as an actress? I hope something like that turns up. She's a goddess.

I just finished watching Ride Lonesome with KS and Randy Scott. Karen was a big fan of the then en vogue "Bullet Bras" and wore them to great advantage!

Ms. Steele in CYBORG 2087
I confess not to know Karen Steele by name. Sure, saw the Star Trek episode she was in, like everyone else, but she was only one of several cutie-pies. Now that I'm taking a look, it becomes shockingly obvious she was quite the stunner.
Looking at her filmography, I recall when I first saw Marty with Ernest Borgnine, I was struck by a line in the film about what a plain Jane her character was supposed to be. If not mistaken, there was even a line alluding to how unattractive she was, so that ol' Ernie could make a point about how ugly he was. I thought, who are they kidding? (Regarding Karen, I mean. Not Ernest.) In 1966's Cyborg 2087 (why, at the time of this writing, that would be only sixty-six years from now), Michael Rennie, not having realized he had bought the farm in "The Day the Earth Stood Still," comes again to earth as an alien, but this time to change the future, Terminator style. To help with his mission, he enlists the aid of two scientists, and one of them happens to be the lady with that knockout combination of brains and beauty, Karen Steele. Looks like Ms. Steele passed away at a relatively early age. Why is it always more saddening when it is learned that a human who looks as her did not live life for a longer time? Is it fair to think this way? Aren't we all supposed to be equals? I wanted to give a nod to the moderator "Wendigo" for concluding three posts up (#15) that "the jury is still out on #8 until we receive visual evidence." The eighth photo is the one in color, of a blonde wearing a red bikini. Upon clicking to get the large image and a closer view, my first thought was, that face looks nothing like Karen Steele. Yet when visiting the lady's IMDb page, and noticing the photo that was selected to identify her at top left, that face sort of looked like the blonde in the red bikini. If only I had the contact information for Inspector Clouseau to get to the bottom of this mystery. An image search yielded multiple results identifying the red bikini wearing blonde as "Karen Steele's feet." Didn't they realize the whole idea was to confirm that face? . |
