I am the same age as LS had they survived. They gave scum a bad name. Their tendency to pick fights when they outnumbered their opponents was legendary. At one london hotel nine or ten picked a fight withfive guys. The got beaten to a pulp by the Metropolitan Police boxing team.
Their interviews, their actions at the time endowed me with my hatred for them and Sweet Home Alabama was the culmination. Try reading the subtext as if you were black. South gonna rise again and put uppity ni***rs in their place. That is what the song means. Dont believe me? Try it on a black audience after increasing your life insurance.

With all due respect you are putting 2 and 2 together and coming up with 9 mate.
You obviously don't like the band, and that is your prerogative, but you are 'reading the subtext' to lyrics that don't exist.

As a footnote, I attended a few LS concerts back in the 70's, and there was more than a few black fans in attendance at every concert.

Did you know that Sweet Home Alabama was written in response to Neil Young's song Southern Man , which really called all southern men racist and that blacks lived in shacks and all the whites lived in mansions , also he was calling Southern men crackers , the term cracker comes from cracking a whip on the backs of the slaves so that shows that Neil Young had a very racist view , So Sweet Home Alabama was letting Neil know they weren't Racist and were proud to be from the South
FYI - The South's Going To Do It Again is by The Charlie Daniel's Band
.
Southern Man

Neil Young

Southern man, better keep your head
Don't forget what your good book said
Southern change gonna come at last
Now your crosses are burning fast
Southern man
I saw cotton and I saw black
Tall white mansions and little shacks.
Southern man, when will you pay them back?
I heard screamin' and bullwhips cracking
How long? How long? How
Southern man, better keep your head
Don't forget what your good book said
Southern change gonna come at last
Now your crosses are burning fast
Southern man
Lily Belle, your hair is golden brown
I've seen your black man comin' round
Swear by God I'm gonna cut him down!
I heard screamin' and bullwhips cracking
How long? How long? How
Songwriters: NEIL YOUNG

Demis Roussos after Aphrodite's Child.

Singing Schlager music with this voice is like using a Corvette for just driving to the mailbox.

Yep I did

I don't think it's racist, Jewel Kilcher who strikes me as far from racist and normal did a cover of it, something just tells me if it was she wouldn't have done it and plays it live now and then also

Jewel and Sheryl Crow's version
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kpxM2E3IY2U

Good cover also

Default Lynyrd Skynyrd

Skynyrd racist, yeah right! I don't even think so.
Ballad Of Curtis Loew

Well, I used to wake the mornin' before the rooster crowed
Searching for soda bottles to get myself some dough
Brought 'em down to the corner, down to the country store
Cash 'em in and give my money to a man named Curtis Loew

Old Curt was a black man with white curly hair
When he had a fifth of wine, he did not have a care
He used to own an old dobro, used to play it across his knees
I'd give old Curt my money, he'd play all day for me

Play me a song Curtis Loew, Curtis Loew
Well, I got your drinking money, tune up your dobro
People said he was useless, them people are the fools
'Cause Curtis Loew was the finest picker to ever play the blues

He looked to be sixty, and maybe I was ten
Mama used to whip me but I'd go see him again
I'd clap my hands, stomp my feet, try to stay in time
He'd play me a song or two, then take another drink of wine

Play me a song Curtis Loew, Curtis Loew
Well, I got your drinking money, tune up your dobro
People said he was useless, them people are the fools
'Cause Curtis Loew was the finest picker to ever play the blues

Yes Sir

On the day old Curtis died, nobody came to pray
Ol' preacher said some words, and they chunked him in the glade
But he lived a lifetime playin' the black man's blues
And on the day he lost his life, that's all he had to lose

Play me a song Curtis Loew, hey Curtis Loew
I wish that you was here so everyone would know
People said you were useless, them people all were fools
'Cause Curtis, you're the finest picker to ever play the blues

Sweet Home Alabama
Neil Young and Lynyrd Skynyrd actually got on fine . . .

The words just came out that way. We just laughed like hell and said, ‘Ain’t that funny.’ We love Neil Young. We love his music.” In case anybody thought he wasn’t serious, he began wearing a Tonight’s the Night shirt onstage.

The feeling was mutual, and Young sent the group a demo of his song “Powderfinger” to see if they wanted to record it in their next album. Tragically, Ronnie Van Zant and other members of Skynyrd died in a plane crash before they had the chance. (According to legend, Van Zant was buried in his Tonights the Night T-shirt, though this remains a hotly disputed topic.) Just weeks after the accident, Young played a show in Miami to raise money for a children’s hospital. Near the end, he played a medley of “Alabama” and “Sweet Home Alabama” as a tribute to the band.

Let's see:
Are they sweaty? Check
Banjo? Check
Kinda alt-country by way of The Replacements? Check

Do they write nauseating lyrics? Let's see

Can you lie next to her
And give her your heart, your heart
As well as your body
And can you lie next to her
And confess your love, your love
As well as your folly
And can you kneel before the king
And say I'm clean, I'm clean

What was that you asked again?
