Time for another cheerful little anecdote?
I used to work in a hospital that had a dedicated Spinal Unit and I remember meeting a tetraplegic guy who'd been 'SMIDSYed' in central London (or 'Sh1t City' as us bikers called it Back In The Day). He remembers lying there, fully conscious, looking up at the sky and thinking "WTF?" when he heard those dreaded words: "let me through - St John ambulance" This 'expert' then proceeded to remove his helmet. He clearly remembers the instant when he lost sensation in his whole body, for ever. God, life can be so crap sometimes. |

I would not mind having any of these bikes:
1 - Harley-Davidson WLA 2 - BMW R75 3 - DKW NZ350 4 - Zundapp KS750 (not shown - but similar to the R75) 5 - NSU Kettenkrad

Originally developed for agriculture work, but wartime uses found other jobs. Often seen in movies promoting the Me 262 and Ar 234 jets tasked with pulling them around the airfield as tugs. Recently seen in the movie "Saving Private Ryan" - powered with an Opel 1.5 liter engine I believe.

My first bike was a Honda Superdream 250cc back in 1979. My second bike was another new Superdream two years later. But I really wanted a shaft drive and ideally a BMW, but with the cost of them, plus I didn't really need a big bike, I thought about a Kawasaki 550. Went into the showroom in south London, and there it was.......A brand new kawasaki 550 shaft drive £2600 and came complete with............ rust already on the silencers!!! Sod that , so I went and bought a 1979 BMW R100 - full RS fairing the lot. My dream bike
I had the BMW for about five years 'til it was unfortunately written off in a fluke accident. I still can feel the thrill of riding that bike over the Kirkstone Pass in Cumbria!! If I ever get another bike it will have to be a BMW again. BTW. The BMW cost me £1899 !!

lol, when I saw this thread I thought it meant bikes, like village bikes. I always fancied our village bike, Maureen was her name. But she was too discerning - always went for the blokes with knackered motors and I wasn't old enough to drive ...

Rear suspension used a single shock, which certain Japanese manufacturer years later claimed to have invented! I found some ice on the A1 and remember overtaking cars lying on my back in the road.A bent footrest and handlebar was the only damage. But it kept me poor even though I was earning over £1000 a year and sold it for 100 guineas.Yes folks, I actually remember using guineas! I saw 135 mph on the clock, in those days there was no 70 mph limit away from built up areas. |
