Default Latest Govt Proposal

Apparently there will be a requirement to enter a credit card number, or NI number when accessing any porn sire from the UK. This information will be stored safely (lol) by the Govt and a record will be kept of each site visited. When this is enacted will it change any members' approach to online porn?

I'll use somebody else's NI number.

The BBFC are to block sites which don't prohibit under eighteens from viewing them, and also those with any material that they would censor in an R18 DVD - quite a long list. I wonder how this site will be affected?

I thought it would be mainly tube sites affected as they are easy targets to block. However from what I can gather it is any site that hosts porn. So there will be thousands, if not tens of thousands of sites blocked including possibly this one.

The pay-for sires will not be restricted, but sites like this will be and it will have a huge impact on the number of visitors and content.

I believe it's the other way round. Pay sites will be the first in the firing line, because the government is under the illusion that most porn sites are pay sites. Will sites that attract advertising put them in that category? No idea, but it's clear that this is just the first salvo, with more to come.

Interestingly, big social media sites like Facebook will initially be exempt, probably because the government doesn't dare take them on at present. Can you imagine the uproar if Facebook and Twitter got blocked? Shows just how hypocritical the whole thing is.

Yes, VPNs are the immediate answer, but I've read that there are plans further down the line for ISPs to block VPN sites as well. This may be propaganda to get people to buy a VPN but if not people should be ready to hop on one while they can.

Some very good VPN's are free, a certain popular browser has one included.
VPN's not easy to block as it just shows your IP address to be from a different country.

Yes, they can't block the use of VPNs currently. But if they block the VPN sites it will stop people finding them in order to purchase one (unless they use a proxy). But there are many and it will be like the ever-expanding torrent site blocklists.

Not sure I would trust a free one, but then I wouldn't wholly trust a paid one either. TorrentFreak has a list of recommended VPNs.
