Helen Walker was a beautiful, talented actress whose flame burned very briefly in the 1940s. Because of a combination of factors (her personal quirks, a terrible auto accident, and all-around bad luck), her career was over before it really got started. She died of cancer before her 48th birthday. The third link above provides the details; this poor woman's life could have been conceived by Thomas Harris and/or Stephen King. Anyway, pictures and info about her are scarce (on the Web), and not too many people remember her, or know about her in the first place, so I thought I would give her a plug here.

On a lighter note, here's a clip of her from the 1942 Alan Ladd film Lucky Jordan. This must have been a bit daring at the time: Helen slowly raises her skirt, revealing a set of spectacular legs, in order to distract a Nazi henchman long enough for Alan Ladd to take away his gun. I think this scene (in 1942, anyway) would have given a teenaged boy fantasy material for weeks.
