Did you know that the British pronounciation of curry was Khari, and that is where we get the name curry for today's Indian dishes. Indians would say the name of the dish rather than just the catch-all title of curry. Basically we British were pretty stupid BUT we did come up with the very fine chicken tikka massala which legend has it was a customer who complained that their chicken dish was too dry, so the chef added a tin of tomato soup and hey presto a BRITISH classic was born-you wouldn't get it in India because if you asked for one there they'd have no idea what you were on about.

Wife and I used to go to Thailand for our hols. A must visit place in Bangkok was Mrs Balbirs Indian restaurant on the Sukhumvit Road. Mrs Balbir was a TV chef and was billed as the Asian Delia Smith. Her place was small but the food was out of this world. She sat down at our table one night and explained that her curries were British standards and so were much better than Indian ones. Whether she was right or not I couldn't say, but her food was marvellous.

Well I've never had a curry of any sort BUT I have had a supermarket-bought chicken tikka marsala and that was spicy enough for me.

No it's not curry I was just saying the strongest thing I've had is chicken tikka Marsala not a curry-I'm too much of a coward and being Jewish we can't drink milk with meat so it's either water or juice and that's not good for relieving pain in the mouth from the strong flavour.
