I have a suggestion. This may come across as harsh and I suspect some will very much not like it but its not intended to be personal, insulting or derogatory.
Short version: Stop worrying about what other people are doing and just post good material yourself. Longer version: Don't complain about what others are posting, whether it was an opinion you disagree with, a picture post of someone you are not interested in, a video link for a fetish you don't have, a response from someone who didn't understand one of your posts, a new member who doesn't understand yet (well, you can make a partial exception for this in order to NICELY help them), or a post by someone who has too many "Thanks" or hasn't made enough "Thanks". Just worry about making your own posts good and useful. Post your contributions to the forum to the best of your ability and ignore the nay-sayers because no matter what you do there will be nay-sayers. If you think there should be more of something here, go find it and post it. If you think there should be less of something here, stop reading those threads & sections. Worry about your own house, not everyone else's. "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you." And remember that you too will stumble and make mistakes.

Excellent DT. In fact:
Even Shorter Version: More fanny, less fannying about.

- Quite frankly, I dont understand the inclusion of the "quote" button, which indicates to me in other websites, that conversation was condoned. Its really not here, except in very limited places and in extremely limited ways. I have had most of my replies yanked from the mods even though I wrote nothing incendiary. I have never been rude to anyone here.I would get a threatening PM from the mods that my reply was inappropriate, and by that, it wasn't about content ( at least none I could attest to) it was about replying at all. But even in threads that are totally opinion-based and text-based, I have had posts yanked by mods: I recall one about least favorite or favorite musician ( or over hyped, something like that ) and I wrote I didnt like Springsteen, and apparently one of the mods (or long time power- member) really took it personal, openly berated me ( that reply remains) and had my reply yanked. Favoritism anyone? IMO, they should remove all ability to reply or quote in any forum or post that is image or video-based and make any correspondence to those posters only on a PM level.
-That aside, I have daily issues with some of these image upload/download sites. There will always be one that none of the images wont download from a particular posting. I dont blame VEF for that, I think its a 3rd-party site issue. - Straying from the thread theme ( image-based) seems to be problematic from time-to-time. I do see they get moderated and occasional warnings put in place to re-focus the attention and intention of the original thread. One time, I believe it was a bustier thread, but the content was sometimes straying further and further away from that. So I simply put a glossary up what specific items of fashions are called, ( this was fact based) I didnt call anyone out, didnt write anything negative. I only posted it to be of help as it seemed obvious to me, via the postings, some simply didn't know. That post got yanked too. |

There's been many many many many times a post appears in a huge thread and might simply say "Yes she did" Well that post might have been a reply to a post 16 pages back, Who's too know which post "Yes she did" referred too The member, who should have been quoted may not even know, I'll often remove posts that make zero sense when they're like that.

Moderators
I did NOT suggest that this forum should be un-moderated or that it was necessarily poorly moderated. My post merely highlighted the amount of OTT black-slapping and self-congratulatory posts from moderators on this forum. Both at present and in the past I've been a member of (non pornographic) user generated content sites and the moderators just quietly get along with the task in hand and don't make a big deal about it. Granted there is no "Thanks" button for moderation as there is for posts in this forum, but moderators are clearly denoted by their Red and Green profile names.

I have to agree with Retrovintro, the deletion of posts for no reason whatsoever is a common occurrence on this forum. It normally happens when moderators become over-zealous and start to censor the poster and not the content or when posts are deleted not because they're offensive, off-topic, over-quoting or in breach of the forum rules but because the content does not match the personal views held by the moderator who hits the 'Delete' button. I must admit that it is one of VEF's more unique features.
