Default Your favourite American comic character

I am going to limit this to Marvel and DC (because theyre all I know)

I grew up in the 60's & 70's an avid collector of American comics. To me this was my view of America, not Films or TV. I couldnt bring myself to buy the English versions either, I got the bus into Newcastle once or twice a month and bought them from a specialist importer because for me the price on the cover HAD to be in Dollars and Cents not in Sterling, it just felt like a little piece of America in the North East of England.

Anyway my favourite Marvel characters,

The Silver Surfer
Vision
Wonderman

DC characters

The Flash
The Green Lantern

What or who were yours?

More to come......

Nice one tabler I'm reading my way through a whole series of Marvel Essential's books right now. I grew up reading Marvel comics.

Marvel - I've always preferred the comics from the House of Ideas
Daredevil is my all-time favourite comic character.
The Abomination
Black Widow
Hawkeye
Hulk
Man-Thing
Rogue
Spider-Man
The Thing
Wolverine

DC - I always preferred the darker side of DC comics and only read a few titles on a regular basis.
Batman
Darkseid
Flash
Green Arrow
Green Lantern
Hawkman
The Joker
Orion
Solomon Grundy

Bugger nuts i can`t fully contribute to this thread as my absolute favourites are from other independent comic publishers , such as Dark Horse and First Comics who produced The Badger and Nexus , hmmmm but marvel did reprint Dreadstar from Epic so i guess that counts ? .In which case some of my favourite characters not including the two above are all in this excellent series particularly Vanth (The hero) , Lord high papal (Villian) and Odei (He`s the half man half cat )

Although the whole story thing starts with Metamorphosis Odyssey and The Price really , erm i've lost you all now huh ?

Also liked Swamp Thing ,Rorschach from Watchmen , V from V for Vendetta both of which were comics re-printed by DC i think so count ? , still on balance i prefer Marvel to DC with The Hulk , Thor , Iron Man and Spiderman but i sort of stopped reading them round about 1993-ish as there became so many new titles so many cross over stories and limited edition specials (Especially with Spiderman) i became confused (It comes easy) then a bit bored with it all.

Personally i blame Ronald Perelman , he came up with the idea of flooding the market with so many different titles to try and get more money from the then comics boom and ended up devaluing them all leading ultimately to Marvel`s bankruptcy. But don`t worry he did alright for himself and is now a major shareholder in reality based shows like X Factor

Lex Luthor ?

Whoops went slightly off topic there , but then i wouldn`t be me if i didn`t have a little moan

Thanks for the contribution Wendigo (and you GS, your input is ALWAYS welcome) I was not a huge fan of DC, to me they were just a kind of 'fill in' untill my Marvels were due in.

What were some of your favourite Baddies, mine were,

Dr Doom
Sandman
Magneto

Hey I've just realized, they are ones that have been made into Film Baddies

Oh and I've just rememberd, Loki, he was a nasty jealous bugger

Ahhh so it be villains you now are wanting eh . Well always thought Marvel had the best by far and liked the Super Skull myself , but that was mainly because i never could take to the fantastic four and he used to take the piss out of them all .

But i also liked

The Joker (DC)

Arcane (DC)

Juggernaut

Venom

Kingpin

Thanos

Green Goblin

Red Skull

Parallax (DC)

I don't think I've ever read any American comics - come to that, I don't think I've read ANY comics since I stopped reading 2000AD way back in the mid-80's.

Thoroughly enjoyed the new Spiderman and Iron man films though

Hollywood seems to be mad on doing super hero films recently as we know , and there`s even strong pointers to them finally getting around to making a Green Lantern movie . Which if done correctly could hopefully be on a par with such excellent adaptations as Iron Man , though if done poorly it could end up as a bad joke like Daredevil . Sure it had it's fans but i couldn`t stand it , and it wasn't just because Affleck looked uncomfortable or that the Kingpin "That fat white man " was made black or the great bullseye was used for comic relief. It`s the entire tone of it was totally un-Daredevil like , erm if like er that makes any sense ?.

What i`m saying is i just hope they don`t mess with the Green Lantern , or put josh harnett in the lead (Shudder)

Talking of shudder and since i`ve been given special dispensation by our thread leader here`s another favourite Epic comic character of mine

Jugger Grimrod , here seen cutting his dads hand off

From the very underrated Alien Legion series

Now that`s one comic i`d really love to see made into a feature film
