I'm sorry but i don't understand, are you saying that my pw protected zip files are ok or that i shouldn't be able to upload them? I have a free account and i've uploaded about 9gb of these files so far and a friend of mine just downloaded one and it worked ok.
Sorry if i seem a little thick but i've had no problems so far and no messages to say i can't upload certain files.

Normal ZIPīs/RARīs are o.K., but not password-protected ones. The password-protection gets automatically detected by the MF-system and upload is disabled then. What makes me wonder now is the fact that you obviously could upload password-protected files earlier. Perhaps they have changed their policies meanwhile. Just to be sure: donīt mix up "compressed" files (ZIP/RAR) with "password-protected" files. Thatīs two different issues.

Perhaps they donīt detect it as you are using an (working??) E-Mail-Adress. Moreover, a strange one luring to VEF.
As for me, all my earlier upload-attempts with passworded files failed Anyway, as long as this is working for you, fine. But if I were you, I would re-consider chosing a password which does not refer to particular sites or content. The more encrypted it is, the lesser the risk of getting "trapped".

Just an update i just found this in thier knowledge base.
Why can't I upload password protected archives? Posted by Mark on 29 August 2008 12:06 AM For free users, MediaFire does not allow uploads of password protected archives because of continued abuse from users who were using them to hide content that violated our Acceptable Use Policy and/or Terms of Service. For MediaPro subscribers, MediaFire allows password protected archives as long as they comply with our Acceptable Use Policy and Terms of Service. Does this meen that when spotted my zip files will be deleted? Do i need to go pro or are password protected archives different from pp zip files?

@Exfarmer
1. If your password-protected files work, continue like that. No need to change. 2. When MF gets a copyright-complaint, they remove the file immediately and the uploader gets informed about that.Things like these happen. In repetitive cases, MF (as every filehoster) will then close the account. This has nothing to do with password protection or not. Moreover, it can only be reported once the password has been used to get to know the content of the file. So by result, when you share only here, the report is most likely come from here by consequence. Or another one has just copied/pasted your links and spread them on other forums. Impossible to trace or detect from whom or why.

Thanks mate, I didn't realise that when i made that password it would form a clickable link when written down, not that it actually goes anywhere. Also i did all this to try and give myself a bit of security in case it all went tits up again, on MU i just uploaded the avi file and used the full name. I tried to take on board your advice in the MU has been shutdown thread.
I didn't think about how that password could attract some unwanted attention to VEF if ever there was a problem. I will delete them and start again without passwords and references to vef. Thanks again for the helpful replies.

No, they were not pw protected, and I am not running Noscripts on this PC, so it's not that either.
I will think about updating to the latest version. Is 9.0.1 worth it? It only seems like a few months since 6 came out and at the time they were beta testing 7, and then I kinda lost track. OK, have upgraded to 9.0.1 - will have a better look at it tomorrow - looks v. much like 6 on the surface. There isn't a thread on VEF that rates/evaluates versions of FF is there? I know that there is one for extensions. Last edited by Threadbanger; January 23rd, 2012 at 08:51 PM.. |
