I remember when my siblings and I kicked in and bought dad a VHS for his sixty fifth birthday. Top of the range, it even had a remote connected by a cable to the machine so he could record, playback, fast forward, rewind and stop without leaving the comfort of his armchair...provided the positioning of said chair accommodated the length of the cable.
I'd tell my younger self to hold off and buy him a laser disc player. Truly the technology of tomorrow.
