Default RIP Goober

George Lindsey, who portrayed Gomer Pyle's cousin Goober on "The Andy Griffith Show", it's sequel "Mayberry R.F.D." and "Hee Haw" has passed away. He was 83. In addition to his film and T.V. work, he raised a large amount of money for the Special Olympics. He is survived by a son, a daughter and two grandsons.

George went to college at my alma mater The University of North Alabama, (Florence State Teachers College) back when George was there.

He played quarterback on the football team and still holds some passing records there.

The last several years he has hosted the George Lindsey Film Festival at UNA.

I think my favorite Goober episode from Andy Griffith is when Goober assembles a car in the courthouse.

Carroll Shelby has passed away at the age of 89. He was a one time chicken farmer turned race car driver and champion who became a legend in the American automobile industry. He also made some damn good chili.

Pioneering American bass player Donald "Duck" Dunn has passed away. He was 70 years old. Dunn was part of the house band at the legendary recording studio Stax Records. Dunn along with Steve Cropper, Al Jackson and Booker T. Jones were the backing band for some of the early and mid 60's greatest soul recordings. Dunn played behind Otis Redding, Sam and Dave, Wilson Pickett and many others. The band eventually became known as more than the House Band at Stax and recorded themselves as Booker T and the MG's. He later played bass on recordings by Freddie King, Albert King, Muddy Waters and Eric Clapton. He also was featured in the movie The Blues Brothers as one of the members of the band that was on a "mission from God." Dunn was a very influential and innovative player who added a huge bottom to all of the early Stax recording. His sound was unique for the time and he will always be regarded as one of the pioneers of electric bass guitar. RIP Donald Dunn

Donald was an amazing bass player, I remember seeing him live when he toured with the Blues Brothers band.
One of the best bass players I've ever heard. R.I.P Duck.

Very sad news for a musician who gave us so many great riffs. Steve Cropper has posted a simple but moving message on his facebook page.

http://www.facebook.com/stevecropper

I'm sure our thoughts go out to all of those working on this tour, but I'm also sure if you gotta go he would have wanted to go with his boots on and still rocking!
