Subtitles - creation and translation - technology sollutions.
There are several problems with creating and translating subtitles. The task falls into three categories.
1) get the timing for the subtitles. There is a tutorial on how to get timing from youtube in the help session. 2) Get the text of the words. 3) Translate the words to a new language. The composite of timings and translated text goes into an srt file. There are new applications which are coming out with the new smart phones. especially google, to allow speech to text including translations. It is "new technology" and does not seem to be readily available outside of the new phones .... yet. As with all new technology, there is the shiny new product - lots of innovations, lots of alternative products and in the next year or so, many made into PC based applications. It will become common place, and much improved over time. But in the mean time - those with the smart and shiny new toys can help us plebs by doing the text capture and translations for us. The technology is now here. How we use it for our own ends is up to us. |

No need to go to all that trouble bud lol.......there's several programs out there already, and have been for a while, that can take those French subtitles, that are the absolute only subs out there for a particular video, and convert it to the language of your choice.......already in place as the original French ones were. Like I said........there's several out there, but one of the best ones is called appropriately enough......"Subtitle Edit". It's the best I've seen, and I've been using it for 6-8 years now. |
